Walking in my Grandfather's Footsteps

March 18, 2019

Sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's, my Grandfather visited La Grange, Texas. While there he snapped a photo of the old MKT Depot and shortly afterwards, he painted it. Knowing of my love for railroads, he gave it to me for Christmas in 1999 and it now hangs in my dining room.

A work trip got me within 8 miles of La Grange. So after I finished my project, I drove into town to get some photos. After having looked at this painting for decades, it was a bit surreal to see the depot in person. My Grandfather passed away 2 weeks prior to the trip and this visit was a poignant way to say goodbye.

This is the reason I went to La Grange and I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
