UP 1988

MKT "The KATY" Heritage Unit

On June 29, we caught  UP 1988 at Belt Jct just north of 610 along the Hardy Tollroad on our commute home to Spring. I quickly took the next exit and looped around for Michele to grab a few photos.

With the 25 miles between Belt Jct and Spring, we had an easy time getting far ahead of the train. In fact, I went on home, dropped off Michele, grab my cameras, and jumped in my truck to get some better photos and video in Spring.

The train stopped a few hundred yards short of the north end of the yard. On my scanner I heard the Lloyd Yard Dispatcher tell the crew that their orders had been misplaced and he was printing new ones. A few minutes later UP 1988 was cleared to depart onto the Palestine Sub. The Dispatcher also advised the crew to hold just south of Conroe and not foul any crossings while a MoW crew was repairing a weld in a rail.

It being 1700, the rush was on through Old Town Spring, so I decided to catch the train in an open spot about 150 yards south of my house. I've never railfanned so close to home! See the video below.
