Welcome to Alamosa and the Early Iron Car Show... this has become quite a huge Car Show.. I thought this was a Beautiful Picture.. thought you might like it.

Welcome to Embudo Water Tank between Taos and Espanola New Mexico.

Here is the Famous Depot lined with river rock from the Rio Grande.

And another view of the Tank from about where the Tracks would have been.

497 at Cumbres on a Helper Run...

Thursday April 21st and we are on top of Gravity Hill, just before Milepost 290.

Here we are at Ferguson Trestle, the pettibone is coming behind and we are just waiting for it to come into view.

Now the important thing is... 484 is on her test run for 2005 and she ran great, the valves are a bit stiff, but she did well, and almost zero steam leaks..

Well I hope the Boss doesn't kill me, but here I go... Here is freshly painted passenger car 523 being rolled over to the mainline in Antonito, no that is not a Parlor Car, that is a regular passenger coach... you are looking at the New Paint Scheme for the Cumbres & Toltec Cars.... We had hoped it would be darker and still may be, but there is a Rich Red Color for the body, a Silver coated roof and silver journal doors and Black trim with gold lettering..

There she is on the Mainline...

I am sorry, but I had a roll of film mess up, so I had to use my 20 dollar digital camera to take these and here is Car 523 in the sunlight for the first time..

More shots of the new Cumbres & Toltec Car....

A look at the load of Rail on the flatcars.... the weather looks threatening and it was, there was a foot of new snow on Cumbres and light snow in Antonito over the weekend.

Monday April 25th 2005...

During a earlier inspection run up the line, Marvin and Ronnie came upon a huge rock right on the rails at 297.90. The rock was extremely large and they were unable to move it, Today Marvin and Max left with the Motorcar and the Air compressor and a Jack Hammer, after a solid day of work.. the rock was removed.

Also on Monday, a Motor-Car stored in Antonito was trucked over for use by the Snow removal crew to Chama. All the guys got together and we were able to roll it up onto the trailer with its work flat.

Also on Monday we removed 484 from its tender, I know, I know.. we just steamed her up, but due to the way the schedules are set, we now have to do the Annual inspection on her.

We will Hammer test the Air Reservoir and Clean the flues, we will also Hydro test the boiler, Sonar the Arch Tubes and Drawbars and hammer test all the staybolts in the firebox.. I will have picture's on next weeks update. Hey, have you ever seen the inside of a Mechanical Lubricator, well we have to make a repair on 484's Lubricator, so we took the cover plate off and I took Picture's for you...

Tuesday April 26th 2005...

Here is the progress so far on the new track in Antonito,

It looks great so far, the guys have been doing a great job, the switch and other items were actually made for standard gauge and the Crew has had to re-gauge the Points and other items to make it fit the 36 inch gauge here on the C&T.

Wednesday April 27th 2005...

In the picture's the guys are going along on the track construction, They installing rail and spiking. In the last picture "from left" Joseph is providing pressure to hold the tie against the rail while Rudy on the "far right" sets the spikes and Ray in the middle runs them into the Tie with Pneumatic Spiking Machine.

The Motor car was found to have a damaged axle, so it being moved into the shop for repair.

Thursday April 28th 2005...

Well the Guys are working on the Next Switch...

In the second picture, the track I am standing on will curve a bit and tie into the switch.

A look at the completed switch...

And in the second picture, the view of the new track curving into the new Switch.

This Standard Gauge Locomotive rests at Gulf Hammock, FL. She was built by Vulcan in 1915, with 40" drivers,

She has a Tractive Effort  of 15,825 pounds, A empty weight of 71,000 pounds, and a Boiler pressure of 190.

She ran in Florida; first for Gulf Pine Company as #3 and running last on Pattterson-McInnis Lumber Company, for which it is now numbered and lettered!

Seems she was built as a wood-burner and then converted to oil.

A look at the cab of Number 3.

Now that Spring appears to be a bit damaged.

I love this sign, read and enjoy the laugh like I did.....
