Hello there, here is me and My Sweety Erika at the Summit of Sandia Peak.. Happy Valentines to my Sweety and Thank you for a Wonderful weekend, okay now back to the Webpage.

Monday February 14th 2005...

Hey check this out, I stopped at my Bank in Alamosa and found this Railroad Tie in a Parking next to the Bank, its a tie with the Tie Plates still spiked into the Tie and look close, it has all three rails.. that must have been taken up somewhere along the Rio Grande 3-Rail Main line.

Today in the shop we continued work on the Colorado Snack Car and are continuing work on Fabrication of the Over head Storage racks for the Parlor Cars.. We also had a Truck come in at 11 o'clock with two complete switches and the ties and rail. These Switches will tie the existing Track in Antonito into the new track that will be laid to and into the new Friends Car Shop in Antonito. Now lets see, 484 is still in the shop in Antonito and we still waiting for the Shop in Chama to machine us new rings for 484..

Wednesday February 16th 2005...

We have the Antonito Based Snack Car in the shop.. and we have replaced its wheels off the A-Side truck, they needed to be reprofiled and so they were sent to chama.. Wednesday a Set that had already been redone in chama arrived on the company truck.

You can see Ronnie on top of the truck removing the tie down chains, and if you look close He also has a Snowball made from snow just freshly fallen as the truck came over cumbres pass. I think that snowball made its way to Sam. The First axle is being handled by the backhoe and is being unloaded into Track 3 for the Snack Car.

The second axle is being unloaded, now we will send the original Snack Car wheels to Chama... here they are being loaded.

Two Axles on the truck, thats quite a load for the truck.

In the Shop, the Snack car has its A-side truck being rebuilt to remove any lateral slack and the Draft Gear has been rebuilt. We are also adding a Hand rail thru the Aisle in the Snack Car...

Thursday February 17th 2005...

Thursday we had a second set of Wheels arrive from Chama,

Once again Max drove the company truck over with the Axles.

There is the last set of wheels.

And here they are in the shop, they are spare's, and will be used where we need them.

Months before the beginning of the Season and Max and Marvin are planning already, they didn't know I took these picture's...

Today we worked on the Snack Cars B-Side trucks and the wheels were okay, so they will be reinstalled.. we are also continuing work on the Hand Rails for the Snack Cars.

A look at 487's left side crosshead and expansion link.

There is 487's Left side drivers, all the Rods have been removed to redo the Bushings.

A look at 487's front end, it is jacked up and the Pilot Truck has been removed.

Another look at 487's front end minus the pilot truck.

Here is 487's removed Pilot Truck.

There are 487's rods.

A look at the Right side Drivers minus rods.. there is a piece of Emery Cloth Tape on the Crank Pin, there may have been a small scratch on the surface, the Emery Cloth would be used to lightly polish the surface.

487's front end without the pilot Trucks and Plow.

A look under 487's Front End. That is the pocket where 487's Pilot Truck would sit.

A long shot of 487's Front End in the Air.

487's right Crosshead, the Main rod and Combination lever and Union link have all been removed for rebuild.

There is a chain around the frame and the rear equalizer, this allows the Guys to take a spring off or unload weight on the drivers without taking everything apart.

487's Front end.

There is a pair of these Air Driven Jacks and they are holding up 487's front end.

More of 487's rods.

A look at two Main Rod Bushings, they have grooves cut into them to catch and hold the Alemite Grease for proper Lubrication.

And how's this, a look at the snow on Cumbres...

The Cumbres Depot is buried in the White Stuff,

Look at the Drift forming on the roof.

That Colorado Highway Sign is almost covered.

In the back, you can see the marker showing the depth of the snow.

A look at two track sheds and the Car Inspectors House.

Here is the West end of the Fill at Milepost 329.

And the East end, this is a notorious spot for heavy drifting.

Check out Los Pinos Tank, that is more snow than I have seen in a while.

And another view of Los Pinos. there is alot of snow up there...

Sandia Peak and the Ridge traveling North.

Here is my Sweety Erika at the Summit of Sandia, the View is Breathtaking, Amazing, Stunning and the Mountains and trees and sky aren't bad either.

The Ski lift on the East side of Sandia Peak.

This is part of the walkways at the Summit connecting the Restaurant and the Visitors center and they fully wheel chair accessible.

Looking South, the Summit is Beautiful.

That is the Docking platform for the Tram.

Looking East, we are at the Summit next to the restaurant.. A few Snowboarders are taking a break.

Looking down facing West, the slope is Beautiful, full of Pinon Tree's.

Here comes the Red Tram.

The last few feet into the Summit is pretty steep.

Slowly down the Red Tram prepares for docking.

The Red Tram docks at the summit, that is the one that brought me and Erika up and will take us down.

Falling away from the Summit,

As we reach the center point, the second Tram passes right next to us.

Its amazing what those cables hold up, we are way above the ground..

We leave the second tower behind.

Coming over the First tower, we are almost back on solid ground.

Well thats it for this week, I plan on going over to Chama this Week, so I should have all new photos of the Locomotives, have a great week... Carlos
