Monday February 28th 2005...

Today as soon as we arrived, we set out to unload a Trailer full of ties for the new track that will head out to the Antonito Car Repair Shop.

There were 13 bundles of ties on the Truck. Here are Picture's of Ronnie on the Backhoe and me and Marvin V. unloading the ties.

Today we also moved Snack Car 502 into Track 4 and brought Car 500 into the shop on Track 3, we replaced the wheels on the B-side Truck of Car 500 and tested the Braking System. We are also finishing Honing the last Valve on 484 so we can send the new measurements to chama for the new rings to be Machined. Car 502 continues to have its new Hand rails installed and is still inside being worked on.

Wednesday March 2nd 2005...

Well today we had Car 504 in the shop, we replaced a set of wheels on the A-side and since the car had already been in for work before the Christmas Train, its maintenance is done. We decided to do some repair on the wood siding and began painting it..

By the end of the day, the car was fully painted Pullman Green... tomorrow the Black trim and Gold Lettering will be applied...

The snackcar is still in the shop also on track 4, its going thru some interior work.

And, Ed came over from Chama and measured the Cylinders for the New Valve Rings.

Your Looking at some Mainline that has been worked, it looks great...

Some more of the Track... Beautiful Scenery.

One of the Beautiful Structures along the railroad.

There is a load of wood for the Wood Burning Locomotive at the Museum.

Now this is something that is very interesting... You are looking at a type of Ballast car on top of another car... the Bottom Car is the Gauge of the Railroad and acts as a Platform with its outside beams as Rails to support another car on top.. The Bottom car is backed to a loading platform and the bigger car on top with wider gauge is rolled on top.

Now using the bottom Car to ride the railroad, the bigger car on top with wider gauge is filled with dirt.

This is a better view, see the car on top secured with wheel chocks and riding on the bottom car... the railroad is able to dump ballast using a car with wider gauge... that is just too cool... I thought you might like this!!!

Well these are kinda old, but I thought you might still like to see them...

The Chama Depot under a layer of snow...

Here is the Railroad trailer with a few wheel sets and some New Wheels that have yet to be pressed onto the axle's.

Caboose 0306 in the Snow at Chama..

Here is the two tenders 487 & 488, this was before the 488 tender was attached to the 488... but I thought you might like this shot..

A look at the Rotary's, maybe someday we will have to call those Monsters back into service..

I must admit I loved working the Rotary, that was a experience.

The Tenders 487 and 488.

A look at Windy Point, now I will say, there is a lot more Snow now, it has built up quite a bit.

What a great view in the Winter.

Mom and Dad.

Looking toward Coxo at the Road Crossing.

Now at Cumbres Pass, you can see the station in the background.

The snowbank sitting on the Main Line Track at Cumbres.

Mom and Dad with the Most Beautiful Smile and Personality in Chama at the Village Bean... Look at the Bottom right corner of the Chalk Board in the background, that's my Self Portrait I drew on there this Summer.

Well last week a truck driven by Mr. Russom came into Antonito to unload, onboard were the Switches for the Track that will be installed to the Antonito Car Repair Shop.

Onboard was everything we needed, switches, extra track, throw rods, tie plates, angle bars and more.

We used the backhoe with a rail grabber attachment to unload the rail.. basically you just measure the rail, find the center point and lift it from that point and the rail stays balanced.

These are the actual Switches, still have to unload them.

Marvin unloading the rails and stuff.

Down to the last Rails, if you look closely, there is a set of rails with crossbars. That is the 3 foot Rail, rack kind of thing Mr Russom made to haul our equipment, it is chained to the Trailer and just lifts right off.

This is all the stuff that came on the Trailer.

You can see the spring frogs painted black.

Marvin is working on the Trucks of Car 502.

This is the Bolster of the B-side Truck of Car 502, it is turned 90 degree's and on its side and right where the "White Arrow" is, we are laying down fill welds to build up worn edges. The worn areas is where the Bolster goes up and down with the motion of the car and rides against the spring pocket inside the side frame of the trucks.

A better look at the Bolster on its side.

A look at the Rebuilt Journal Box, we have welded a plate to the rear to make up and reduce lateral motion and we have installed a new Piece of wood to act as a dust collector.

After welding on the worn areas, we have to grind them smooth, so they don't get stuck or wear uneveningly.

Now we are working on Honing the interior surfaces of 484's valves. the old rings were too tight and caused some minor damage in the form of scratches. we will hone down the scratches and then measure the new interior and pass that on to chama and they will machine us new rings.

I made this picture as big as possible, so you can see a little more details. We drive this tool with a 1/2 inch drill and there are two guides and two cutting wheels, we spin clockwise and spray gas into the valve to lubricate and clean the cutting stones.. its pretty smelly, but it works!

Nevada Northern #93, a Alco Locomotive built in 1903. Ready for Service at the East Ely Nevada Engine House.

Now this is Great, 93's Custom Built Number plate, made by and dedicated to the Volunteers at the Nevada Northern Railway.

A look at the Engineers Side of 93, you can see the Crosshead and Valve Stem and Mechanical Lubricator and more. This is A Beautiful Shot!!!!

The Photographer of all these Photo's except this one, Ed Stabler sits on the armrest watching a Blind Curve while Approaching Keystone.

A view from the Firemans side of Nevada Northern 93 leaving Keystone for East Ely Nevada.

The Throttle is locked and 93 sits in the shop ready for Action.

Nevada Northern Engineer Kelvin Martinez motions to Ed Stablers Son-In-Law Rowdy, two toots and we are ready to roll.

A view from the Cupola en-route to Keystone, check out the Engineer riding the Armrest.

A view from up in the Cupola of the Nevada Northern Extended Vision Caboose.

I would like to say thanks to Ed, for sharing these Great Photos with the Website.. Thank you so much Ed.

Back a few years ago when we started the Season only running to Los Pinos while Martinez Cut and the Roller Coaster were being repaired.. well I took some pictures... 487 and the Train at Los Pinos Siding during Lunch.

497 and the Train ready to return to Chama, 487 sits in the background..

487 hauled the train to Los Pinos and 497 hauled the train back..

Well thats it for this week, I hope to visit the Chama shop this weekend and I will get pictures of 488 for you. Have a great Weekend and I would like to say thanks to Bill Davis, he sent me the most amazing piece of Artwork in the Mail, I loved it... Thanks.
