And the Train rolls into Chama,
New Mexico. |

The Last picture's of the Private
Railcar Train... |
The Train backed into Monte Vista
to visit FEC Locomotive 148. |
Here comes Caritas on the rear. |
If you remember from my earlier
post, this is where the FEC 148 was initially parked when it first
arrived in Monte Vista. |
The Locomotives come across the
Highway. |
It was a great place to watch the
train come by. |
The was the end of the line for
the Train, the curves are too tight beyond this point and the cars
wouldn't make the curves. |
I enjoyed sharing the Private
Railcar Train, I hoped you had a great time with the Photos. |
You can see FEC 148 in the
background, that is its new home for the moment. |
It was so nice to see a Passenger
Train In Monte Vista, it had been a long time. |
The tracks cross the road here and
continue to the Barley Plant. |
A look at the train sitting in
Monte Vista. |
Carita's at the rear of the train. |
Here comes the Train, it is
rolling along the Highway into Alamosa. |
Passing me at the Crossing, it
will make a small curve, cross highway 285 and enter the Alamosa
Yard. |
What a great time I had, would
love to see another train like this again real soon. |
This Photo was supposed to be taken around 1890, the cut on the
hill above and behind the turntable is now the Corkscrew gulch four wheel drive road.
The picture above and below was posted on the
outside wall of one of the few buildings left standing in Ironton which is the town below the turntable ( not bad for a picture of a
picture eh?) |
Well here is David Dickey and his dog lucy.
These are the first real signs of an
old roadbed, the whole hike is about a mile one way. David is on the upper roadbed that shows in old
pictures.
Close
up of picture before. |
The ground must have been soggy back in the
1890's too, there are stretches where the ties are really close
together |
Really soggy here. |
Lucy listening for the sound of a far of
whistle and the chuff of a train coming upgrade..........
Here's what's left of the turntable July the
4th 2005.
Another view of the turntable. |
Here you can kinda see the roadbed off to the
right going through the trees. |
Not
much left of walls or roof, just the iron rods that held it
together. |
A shot of the workings |
And one from the other side |
The last shot on the way out...
Thanks to David Dickey for these great shots.. |
Once again I would like to say

La Veta, Colorado.. if I am
correct, that Rio Grande Depot was built in 1876... |
San Luis & Rio Grande Units 804 &

Locomotive 487 does switching
duties in Antonito... |
Hey there I am, Yeah.... |
I ran this train and had a great
time, the People onboard the Private Railcars and the Crew were the
nicest People, had a great time. |

always wanted to go here.. |
On the San Luis Central in Center,

Mountain looms in the background. |
The Georgetown Loop with a Diesel
in Control of the train. |
And ain't that Locomotive a
Beauty, Thanks to John for these awesome shots. |
Well some people were curious as
to the survival of the Standard Gauge Freight lines in the Valley...
well I think this maintenance is a good sign, the rails will be here
for a while... |
Contractor crews were in the
Valley to work on the lines and install ties. |
They were not new ties, but they
were solid used wooden ties and will help to possibly remove some of
the Slow Orders on the railroad.. |
Here are a few of the guys spiking
ties... |
The Crew had the Basic Equipment
and they got on it and were pretty quick.. |
The crews are working North from
the old Stone Depot in Antonito, they also worked on the Wye.. |
Next to the Silo's in Anotnito. |
Some of the Work being done. |
It was pretty cool to see so much
action on this Railroad.. |
The Guys have since finished and
have moved on, but I will have more action from the Antonito Main
line.. |
This is the Ties Inserter Machine,
that little Machine kicked Major **** if you know what I mean.. That
is a awesome machine, the guy didn't even have to clear dirt, just
insert the tie and he was done... |
That is great little Machine, we
could use something like that.. it would help us to remove the old
ties that litter the railroad. |
The guy on the Machine was working
alone ahead of the crew moving the ties from the piles and spreading
them along the line. |
This is Tenth Street, right next
to my House, you can see the amount of ties that were put in and we
are looking North to Alamosa. |
Cano's Castle's Twin Towers rise
into the Air as a Rainstorms loom east of Antonito, Colorado...
"Rainbow over Cano" from my Roof. |

another Beautiful Smile... Thanks for all your support and I hope to
do this kinda page again real soon.. it was real nice to be able to

enjoyed it and keep sending in those picture's. Next week I will
