Well here is the nose of Locomotive 169 in Alamosa.... This is going to be a fast update, But next week I have new shots of 488 and the Durango & Silverton and A few Wonderful Young Ladies and Bank Employees who crew for the Wells Fargo Balloon.... that is a big hot air balloon. See you next week, which in fact will be in a day or two.

Oh and just in case anybody is interested in knowing, I just rode behind 482 in Durango and she sounded good and ran like a Champ.

Okay a little note here!!!! If you wanna ride the rails do it on a train, not like these two guys who tried to ride the Antonito Standard gauge thru the Conejos River bridge on a car this Easter Sunday Morning... Be safe and Happy Easter...

Here is the Chamber of Commerce in Alamosa, it sits next to the Locomotive 169 Pavillion.

You are looking at the loading dock for 169, in the future, it will be able to be unloaded directly out of the pavilion.

The Friends of the 169 need all the help they can get, the tender has been redone and more is being done.. contact the Chamber of Commerce in Alamosa if you would like to help.

Well the other day we had to swap trucks on a passenger car... it took a little effort to get the extra set of trucks into the shop, but it worked out okay.

This truck was rebuilt in Chama and shipped over, you might remember when Max Brought it over from chama on a trailer.

In this picture you can see the Backhoe Boom chained to the axle of the truck, that is how we moved it around the shop.

We did find one little problem that needed to be corrected and we got on it right away.

The Journal box of one of the wheel sets had a little too much lateral motion on it, so we went to work.... great thing about these trucks, we just took the bolts off the Journal Box and pulled off the box from the wheel. We didn't have to disassemble the entire trucks like we normally have too with the other trucks we use.

Here is Ronnie cutting a plate to make a shim for the back of the Journal Box.

You can see how we pulled off the Journal Box to make the repair.

Here is Marvin welding the new plate to the Journal box.

This will make the Box a little longer front to back to help reduce lateral motion on the truck.

The truck is repaired and ready for service..

Now we noticed some problems with wear under the car, so we added a shim under the centerplate, here is Marvin drilling the shim with holes for new bolts.

Well I was simply amazed, the other day when I was on my way back from Durango, I passed thru Monte Vista and was lucky to see this Locomotive parked on a siding.

Now I knew that the Railroad between South Fork and Creede had purchased a Steam Locomotive, well here it is in Monte Vista.

If I am correct, it is Number 148 and is a 4-6-2 Passenger locomotive with High Drivers... its a beauty.

The running gear looks to be in great shape...

Love those high drivers.

Now a look at the Rear end, you can see some of the Brake stand plumbing and rear truck.

A look at the Backhead and firedoor.

And a side view of the Firebox.

A look at the rear of the tender, I just got word from the Boss of the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad, the Locomotive will be in Monte Vista for a while, no plans to move it farther towards South Fork for some time.

Now a look at the trucks, the bearings are in place and look great..

Another view of the Trucks.

The Tender appears to in Great shape..

Well here is the Cab, okay who wrote Thug on the side...

Now more of the work train, here is D&RGW Standard Gauge Flanger 052.

And D&RGW Standard Gauge Flanger 062.

The Drop Bottom Center car had both the Locomotive and Cab onboard.

Now a view of a D&RGW Caboose....

Ain't she a beauty.. I love Caboose's.

Caboose 01423 put in alot of miles on the Valley lines, it's good to see her back in the San Luis Valley.

And a look at her platform...

A last look at the drivers of 148, now I have taken more shots of this locomotive and they will be on future updates. And just so you know it will be sitting in Monte Vista for the foreseeable future.

These Photographs by Mike Connor. Thank you very much for taking the pictures and for sharing them with the Website.

Union Pacific locomotive 4023 Being moved across the UP and BNSF mainlines to 8 & Pacific St.  Only problem was a broken axle on the second truck dollie. The move was only going to take 1 hour. They ended up blocking all the mainlines for 8 hours.

The Locomotive begins to cross the Tracks...

These are great picture's.

There was blocking installed to handle the weight of the Locomotive, it probably wasn't enough...

One of the wheels falls thru a board..

And boom, the Axle snaps.

On Saturday March 12 the UP 4023 was moved from 8th & Pacific Street to 3 &
Bancroft St. The move took the engine west on Pacific to 10th then south on 10th to
Bancroft and east to 3rd St.
It took about 3 hours to make the turn onto 10th Street because they overshot the
corner by several feet. Once on 10th Street the engine moved right along with no problems.

The second photo show Mr Davidson and Mr Kenefick watching the move up Pacific St.

A worker rides the Cab of 4023.

Just imagine, these pictures are History in the making...

When are you ever gonna see this again.

Thats impressive.. some of the street lights had to be lifted.

There goes the Locomotive.

There goes the Tender...

Making a turn...

Here she comes...

On Sunday the 4023 was moved from 3 & Bancroft up the dirt hill to its
display sight overlooking  I - 80 and the Missouri River valley.
Two dozers pull while a third pushed the mighty engine up the hill to the
display sight. The engine moved right up the hill with no problems.

4023 prepares for its last move.

4023 makes the turn...

and begins the climb up the hill.

Ain't that amazing.

Two Bulldozers helping 4023 climb the hill.

Hey look its a Front end loader Helper behind 4023.

Coming past a house, look out the front window and what a view.

4023 nears its new home.

The Display area overlooking I-80.

Thanks again to Mike Connor who so graciously let me post these pictures on the website to share with the world... Thanks Mike.
