Welcome to the "Santaurio De Chimayo" east of Espanola, New Mexico.. this is a Holy Shrine and a Beautiful and Peaceful place to visit.

How about a shot of my Sweety at Medano Creek at the great Sand dunes National Park.

Tuesday May 10th 2005...

Well today we were in Chama for the Day, the cars in chama need to be serviced and we went over to do the work. The first picture shows the car jacked up during repair.

And we also fired up Diesel 19 to move a few things around the yard.

In these picture's, you can see Diesel 19 passing by the first repaired and serviced car in Chama.

In the second and third, you can see the Truck from the second car being disassembled to make repairs.

We used the Extra set of trucks and put them under the First Car in Chama, in the First picture is the removed truck.

And there is another view of the truck we are working on.

Now for a bit of news, the track crew is continuing to patrol the track to get the line open and Locomotive 488 was run around the yard in Chama on Thursday and according to Steve the Shop Foreman, it went very well, the 488 ran great.

Wednesday May 11th 2005...

Here is Locomotive 489 out in the sun, the Shop crew had to take a few wheels into the shop for work, and to get into the shop requires them to move the 489 to get in. They also had to roll the Motor Cars out.

We continued work in Chama today and two Passenger Cars received their New Silver Roofs. Tomorrow, they will be painted the New Red Color.

In these Picture's, you can see the Shop Crew moving Wheels into the shop for repair, they will be machined to fit the axle's.

Now you are looking at a fully rebuilt truck in the Antonito Shop,

We actually rebuilt the Entire braking system, we used newly cast parts and bent cold roll metal to make the other parts.

It has new brake beams and brake shoe heads...

Another view of the Braking system.

And here is the new Brake Shoe Head.

Now here is a shot of the first car being painted in the Antonito Shops, this is the first car to receive the New Red Color, at this point we had already painted the silver on the roof and the Windows are completely masked.

I thought you would like to see these older shots.

Now let me show you two models by William Hemmeter of Houston Texas, this is K-28, number 473.. it is 1:22.5 scale and is Scratchbuilt...

And here is a K-27, Number 463 and it is 1:20.3 scale model from Accucraft and also partially scratchbuilt.

These are some Beautiful Models, thanks William for sharing those with us.

Well we had 484 outside and away from its tender for its Annual Inspection.

The Smokebox door was open, so we could inspect and clean the smokebox.

We also blew out all the flues and cleaned any obstructions.

Later that day, we moved 484 back to track one and reattached it to its tender.

Now we are inside 484's firebox and we are putting back the firebrick after we removed it to check the firebox..

I have already installed the side bricks and Ronnie will jump into the firebox also to help me install the center ones.

A look at the flue sheet, if you look closely inside the bigger flues, you can see the Super Heater unit Pipes inside.

Now you are looking at the Fire Grates, the little holes you see are where the Air Shoots into the firebox to draft the fire.. these are Rosebud Grates.

There is Conductor Sam working on the Bench, while I take his picture from inside and thru the Firebox door.

Now you can see the Arch tube to the right, the Grates below and out thru the firedoor.

This is the roll of Firebricks that line the sides of the Firebox.

A look at the grates of 484, that is the surface the fire sits on!

Now that is the Arch of Firebrick, they are little beat up, but will be okay.. we actually used a combination of 487's old firebrick from last year and some of 484's firebrick. We don't have access to new brick in Antonito, so we had to make a set from what we had, some of 484's bricks were broken.

Now a few views from the Chama Shop, these were taken May 12th 2005.

Between 487 and 488... that is 487.

Locomotive 487 sits on the east side of the shop in Chama.

A look at 487.

Another shot of 487, all its rods are back on and in place.

A look at 488, it is being masked inside and out for another paint job.

It will receive another fresh coat of black.

And there is 488's pilot, it still needs to be painted also.

Well I am in Monte Vista, Colorado and I found this Passenger car to share with you, don't know any details...

And here is the Interior.

Look for this Cool looking House and the Passenger Car is right next to it.

And again here is a few shots of FEC Locomotive 148 in its Temporary Location in Monte Vista, Colorado.

Had to mess with these shots a little, it was getting dark....

Here is 148's front end.

And this is where it is at right now and should be there for a while. Follow the link on my Opening Page for more info.

And now another look at the San Luis Central based in Monte Vista, Colorado. You are on the North side of the yards and office in Monte Vista..

And now a look down the main line to Center, Colorado.

This is a Awesome little railroad and I will get more photos and info from this railroad in the future.

Now how about a look into the hidden area of the Durango Paint booth, this where all that color magic happens.

Check out that Rio Grande Stencil... the paint booth has one track going in from the Car Shop and one out for the freshly painted car.

Here is the Wood Shop, where all the Table saws are located, you can also see some wood stored in racks to the rear.

Now we are in the Machine shop and there are the new wheels for Locomotive 481..

Here is 481 in the roundhouse and they are working on the Shoes and Wedges.

Locomotive 481 sits in the Durango Roundhouse.

And another shot of 481's wheels, you can see the brass bushings have already been put in place and are fitted ready for installation.

Locomotive 481 is actually sitting on shop wheels  or dollies to support the locomotive and allow for movement, even though 481 doesn't have its wheels in place.

Locomotive 482 sits in the Roundhouse waiting for its turn at the run to Cascade Canyon.

Another look at the Durango Yards.

How about a look at the Turntable, you can see the Diesels in the back and a glimpse of the Railbus to the right.

I just have a love for Boxcars...

Hey, how about a look at the Sand House and Tower.

How about a view of the Turntable.

Now we are in the car Shop of the Durango & Silverton Railroad.. there is one of the Trucks the cars ride on, they are a bit different from C&T trucks, but these designs work very beautifully... they are designed to give a very smooth ride.

Now we are looking at one of the Business cars being rebuilt, if I am correct, this is the Cinco Animas...

There is a lot of work involved in rebuilding one of these historical cars.

Look at the Metal work on the Railing, simply Beautiful.

Now a view of the Alamosa Parlor Car in Durango.

Durango & Silverton Locomotive 482 at the head of Train.

Locomotive 482 was actually out of the shop and on its first Passenger Train.. it ran beautifully. There are some talented Gentleman in that Durango Roundhouse.

A look at 482.

Engineer William Colley was the Gentleman at the throttle today, Great Job.. smooth ride!!!

A look at 482 and William Colley...

Caboose 0500, ain't she a Beauty.

Locomotive 482 steaming patiently before departure.

Man, I just love this Caboose, its simply amazing.

And here is my Buddy Mike May, what a guy... I was honored and pleased to spend the day with him, what a great Guy.

A view of 0500 from the Platform of the Alamosa Parlor Car.

The view from my seat on the Parlor Car.

A few more shots of the Santuario in Chimayo.

This place is magical to me....
