With me in the Fireman's seat, 488 climbs out of Tanglefoot Curve... Thanks to our Friend Therese for these shots.

This shot was taken during Photo Freight Special.

Oh and the Chama Locomotive Shop is Back in Action, so starting next week I will be making regular runs to Chama, New Mexico to takes photos of the work being done in the Chama Shop.. Keep your eyes open for BRAND NEW WINTER 2005-2006 SHOP WORK.

Hey check this out, its Erika and all Three of the Smokey Bear Hot Air Balloon Pilots. Starting from the left its Pilot Jim Russell, Chief Pilot Bill Chapel and Pilot Clarke O'Byrne.. and check out Clarke, we are at the Largest Hot Air Balloon Rally in the World with over 650 Hot Air Balloons and while Clarke flew, he wore the CUMBRES & TOLTEC Hat I gave him.

We received heavy snow over a good portion of the Cumbres & Toltec and for a few days, gave passengers a look at Winter Wonderland Scene's on the Cumbres & Toltec.

October 10th-2005, 488 takes water at Sublette, New Mexico.

There was over 6 inches in Sublette that day... what a beautiful site, all the fall colors in full effect and snow..... That's Magical.

I don't know how, but the track crews patrolled the track ahead of us, how they kept the motor cars moving in this snow is beyond me...

Arrival at Cumbres Station, Colorado.

The Heaviest snow was actually in Big Horn this day with over 10 inches.

Now a few views of the Durango & Silverton.

Durango & Silverton switches its trains with Diesels to reduce coal smoke.

I recognize the gentleman in the cab, that's D&S Engineer William Colley.

I love these great machines... and I love the paint scheme.

Galloping Goose number 5 crosses Cascade Creek trestle. Thanks to David Ketchum for these great shots, I really like that one of the Goose.

Welcome back to Antonito, Colorado.. the Eastern terminus of the Cumbres & Toltec.

The last train of 2005 rolls out of Antonito.

I love the Smoke trails of a Steam Locomotive.

488 rolls her train out of town.

Thanks to the track crew, Diesel 19 hauled a lot of replaced ties off the railroad..

Basically the Track crews go in and replace old ties with new ones, afterwards the ties are collected and haul out. We actually have lots of ties that still need to be removed from along the tracks. We try to organize trains full of train crew members and we go out and collect the ties.

Diesel 19 hauled  3 cars of used ties out that day.

Conditions in the Canyon and Los Pinos Valley are kinda rough on ties, lots of snow and moisture...

More Picture's of the Cass Scenic.. here is the new water tower at Cass.

And I love this, here is the Heisler at the Shop. That is a Beautiful locomotive.

And this is even better, you know how I love Caboose's.... check this one out, what a Gem.

Here is the Climax at Durbin.

I love these Machines, I have never had the chance to spend too much time around these type's of Locomotives, but they are simply amazing.

Number 2 makes the climb to Bald Knob.

Locomotive 2 is a Beautiful Machine and is running like clockwork..

What a beautiful ride, this is one of the places I would love to visit.

I love the steam in this shot...

The crew stop their train at Oates Creek to water their Locomotive...

And a look at the tanks at Oates Creek, great system. Thanks to my friend for these great shots, Absolutely Beautiful... and there will be a few more.

Now back to the Cumbres & Toltec at Lava, 10 miles west of Antonito.

As usual, every year we store MOW cars and ballast cars in Lava just 10 or so rail miles from Antonito, Colorado.. It allows us to clear the yard for the winter... in Antonito, we do all the maintenance on all the passenger cars and need room to store 19 passenger cars.

I backed into the connecting track at Lava, I didn't think I was going to make it, that's quite a grade going into that track, it's a Four percent or better and it was a little difficult. Once the sand got under all four drivers, 484 crawled right up the Grade. Look closely at the picture and you can see the sand on the rails ahead of 484.

If you look to the right, you can see the Mainline from Antonito coming up on the side there.

484 running light is at Sublette taking water.

That is the classic pose of a steam locomotive....

Fire patrol behind us is stopped next to the Antonito Track Crew, we passed them here at Sublette.

Fall Colors and a Steam Locomotive.

484 running light has arrived at Osier Station, Colorado and is waiting for 487 and few passenger cars and Cook Car 053.

Welcome to the new Conejos County Jail.. this new facility is less than a mile from my home....

Her is Sheriff Joe Taylor at the dedication... he is actually the youngest Sheriff in the History of Conejos County...

Colorado Congressman John Salazar...

Hey, its my Brother Francisco Llamas and McGruff.......

Colorado State Patrol Captain Lawrence Martin, My mom trying to get herself arrested, Sargeant George Dingfelder and my Brother Francisco Llamas

Deputy Andres Casados, McGruff the Crime Dog-"Alison Mondragon", Sheriff Joe Taylor, Sargeant George Dingfelder, My Brother Francisco and Deputy Marcos Naranjo.

The Entire Staff of the Conejos County Sheriff's Department, I would like to pass on Thanks to the Costilla County Sheriff's Department. Costilla County sits exactly east of Conejos County. Costilla County deputies put in overtime and patrolled two counties on this day to allow every Conejos County Deputy to attend the Dedication of the new Jail.

Now back to the Museum in Durango.

Locomotive 476 in the Roundhouse at Durango.

The interior of Locomotive 476... this is the Engineers side, you can see the Brake Stands and Johnson Bar, there is the Water Column and Tri-cocks.

A closer look at the Water Column.

Here is a look at the Fireman's side of the cab.

Another view of the Fireman's side, you can see the Water Glass and Blower and the handles for the Injector.

Another view of the Engineer's side....

How about the Mechanical Lubricator...

And a view of the Radius Rod, Piston stem and Guides and Combination Lever, Union Link and Crosshead....

Locomotive 472 waits for its turn to head out of Durango.

I love this shot, the crew and their locomotive.

Durango, not hard to recognize this place.....

Locomotive 482 with its train bound for Silverton and Locomotive 472 waiting to come forward and hook up to the Presidents Special.

Now we are back in Antonito.

Caboose 0306 in Antonito, in the background is Cook Car 053...

Using Diesel 19 we switched the first car into the Car Shop for repairs.. Car 521 is in Track 3....

Here are more picture's in the Continuing series documenting the new construction of the track leading to the New Restoration Facility in Antonito.

On Tuesday, the track crews were beginning work on the last switch leading to the Car Repair Shop.

They are spiking the rails to the new ties,

In the picture, Robert on the right.. gray shirt is nipping the tie or applying upward force so Julian on the left can firmly spike the Tie.

Thought you might like as many picture's of this process as possible...

I try to get you as close to my perspective as possible..

I just love new track......

Nothing has moved over the new track yet, but they have rolled a motor car over it... keep your eyes open on the next installments of the new track construction.

Helper 484 at Cumbres, Colorado.

She did great that day, and I had Fireman Donald "Ducky" Martinez with me.

After taking water, I am oiling 484 up and Ducky is getting ready for the decent down Cumbres...

Fireman Ducky Martinez on 484.

And here is Good Ole' 97, shot taken by Bruce during a "Hands on the Throttle Program".

Hey check out Thomas pulling the train into Essex Station. This Locomotive pulled Nine Heavyweight cars on its own, Thomas is a tough little Locomotive!!!

Looking out the front window of Thomas. That is a beautiful Locomotive.

This is the train Thomas pulled, ain't that great. Thanks to Bruce Edgerton for these great shots.

Well a few people have asked, so here it goes... this is where part of the website begins, as you know Roger Hogan builds the site and file's and what I do is come along and fill in the picture's and commentary. its a Team effort with Roger doing the actual construction and I cover the Photography and commentary portion...

And what you see here is Base Station Twinky... yep, that's my work zone, I am kind of a Neat Freak....
