Its one of Our Bus Drivers... Everybody meet Hot-Rod!!!!

Say hello to "Encarnacion Rivera" he worked in the Locomotive shop of the Rio Grande in Gunnison... I really enjoyed talking to this guy, what a treasure of Railroad knowledge...

Its the Young ladies of Handlebars in Silverton, my Buddies took me here for the best burger in Colorado.

Here's my Buddy John Kelly... he's at the throttle of a Live Steamer... I have always wanted to run one of these...

And John has always wanted to run one of these "in the cab of 487"... we are going to have to switch places someday...

The photograph is of Mike Camara, full-time fireman on Connecticut's Valley Railroad.  Mike is firing ex-Birmingham and Southeastern 2-8-0 #9, enroute to connection with a riverboat at Deep River.

Thanks to Bruce Edgerton for the photo.

Here's Randy Myers in front of 488, thanks to you Randy for visiting with us, come and ride with us again someday soon!

The Motorcar group has arrived in Chama....

Although a few have already been taken off the rails, a few hung around till the train came in..

I love Motorcars, such great piece's of History.

Well we are over Lobato Trestle and are performing a Locomotive Boiler Blowdown and well here is the end result.. A beautiful rainbow from the Fireman's seat...

Here are the Motorcars with Train 215 in the background.

Basically a box with wheels, oh, but what charm these machines have!!!

It is so nice we are able to open the railroad and allow these machines to ride the rails, the way they were meant to do!

I always enjoy a visit from these Motorcars...

Love these smaller open ones, that's about as close as you can get to actually riding the rails...

Well I am at Lava Tank after having hiked up the side of the Mesa from the Pump house below... You can see Train 1 on its way up the hill.

While we wait, how about a few artistic shots... check this out, this Pine Tree growing by the tracks has been groomed by the locomotives passing by into this odd shape.

The fall season has been overtaken by the Beautiful Flowers growing along the tracks.

Another Pine Tree holding on as the trains continue to pass over the rails.

The West Switch at Lava....

Details of the switch......

Another view of the switch, I try to gear these shots at the Model Railroaders, I hope you like the details.

Check this out, one of the Ballast cars is in the clear at Lava and a bit of the ballast remained behind, well.... time goes by and a beautiful flowering plant is growing inside the car...

Another view of the Groomed Pine Tree...

Train 1 makes its way around the lower loop of Lava...

Locomotive 484 comes into view....

I have always loved this view of the train.... its amazing to see it make the loop around you.

Nearing the East Switch of Lava.

Past the East Switch and heading to the Tank.

Lava Tank...

484 makes the curve and comes out of the cut...

It will clear the switch and be on its way to Big Horn.

Its amazing how a Basic Railroad structure can so Beautiful against a Blue New Mexico sky.

Train 1 leaves me behind at Lava, New Mexico.

Right behind is Fire Patrol with Marvin V. aboard..

The spout continues to hold on.....

My parents hiked with me to the tank and are having a bit of lunch in the background.

An old tank on a narrow gauge line, no its not 1950, its 2005.....

Now i must say, somebody has made a nice home here at Lava...

The boards are a little dry and there are cracks....

The bands are a little loose and the paint is peeling, but still this tank shines of its formal glory and stands watching trains continue to go by....

488 brings the afternoon train into Antonito.... I would like to Thank Chris McEwan for the use of these great shots....

There is yours truly filling up 488, thanks Chris for the shot.

Another awesome shot of 488, I love this pose...

Now this is the one I love completely, here is Locomotive 22 at a Museum in Fairplay, Colorado.... This is a awesome shot, love it.

Thanks to Chris McEwan for these shots..

There are a few places on the railroad where we can make these Steam Locomotive Rainbows, the passengers really love them.. Its great to do them over Lobato Trestle, they almost make a complete circle down into the river canyon.

Thursday and Diesel 19 with two new Traction motors installed in Antonito, heads out to run a Work train for the track crew...

Sam prepares to step off to line the switch back for the 484 coming out of the shop.

Back into the Diesel and Sam and Marvin are on their way to Lava, New Mexico.

They will pick up two flats loaded with ties, continue to Sublette... meet the Track crew and unload the ties where they are needed.

Engineer Ronnie is on the Job and getting 484 ready, The Locomotive has its fire cleaned, the Air Pump restarted, washed, coaled up and watered by a single guy in Antonito.. Only the Fireman is on duty during the morning.

With 484 at the Coaling dock, Ronnie will now walk over and get the backhoe to coal up 484

Coal is being put into 484 from the top, can you see the Backhoe's bucket??

We like to meet a schedule and even if we have to come in early off the clock we do, every morning the Locomotive is ready to roll and hooked up to the train by 9:00 a.m. to avoid having to move equipment with passengers walking around.

I crossed the river to get this shot of the Lava Pump House.. this view is looking North.

And another view of the House.. I was actually up to my waist in water here for this shot.

The south facing windows..

This place is Beautiful, what a great site.

Mom and Dad standing next to the Los Pinos river...

The Lava Pump House continues to guard this section of the river.

Its 488 and Train 2 rolling into Osier with 487 on the Main..

Its nice to see two Locomotives in Osier.

I would like to thank Mashawnna and Marleila for riding the Railroad... I truly hope they enjoyed their ride with us and hope they will return.

Fire Patrol out of Antonito is loaded and ready to head home. On the weekends, Fire Patrol picks up ties along the right of way left over from the track crew replacing ties along the right of way....

Conductor Ray Martinez in on job watching closely as our train descends Cumbres Pass.

Its not many ties, but for one Guy its a hard bit of work, I would like to thank Docent Mike for riding along and helping load the ties unto the Flatcar behind fire patrol.

I am on the last car aboard the passenger train and zoomed in to catch fire patrol coming across the Cascade Trestle.

You can see the Elevation on the outside of the trestle's curve...

The Fire Patrol looks so small upon the trestle.

A larger view of Cascade.

Continuing on and leaving Cascade behind.

Welcome to Handlebars in Silverton, Colorado... this place was great, loved it!!!

Say hi to three of the Fantastic Young ladies who work at Handlebars and the Guy... second from left is the owner.

I loved this place, there is so much to see and the food is awesome...

I have to go back and see what's up with the Polaroid Picture's over the bar.

Thanks Ladies, had a great time having lunch with my buddies.

Galloping Goose Number 5 in the Hole at Silverton...

I love this machine and she looks quite at home here in Silverton at the Depot.

I am standing right off the Mainline in Silverton.

And here is Number 5 next to the Silverton Depot.

Santa Fe Locomotive 5030.... a look at the Blowdown.

A view of the engineer's injector.

A look at the Drawbars and connection between the tender and locomotive.

The trucks under the tender...

A look at the construction of the tender, each line of rivets must be a cross support or baffle plate in the tender.

The rear coupler of 5030.

A view of the tender of 5030...

Check out the brake rigging...

Another view of the Tender trucks.

I love the steps, takes a few steps to get into this cab...

A upward look at the cab and Steam Valve's.

Another view of the Roof Vents..

That's Handlebars in Silverton, stop in for a great burger.

Now Thanks to Steven Dickey, we have a few shots of Santa Fe 5000, and yes I will have shots of Santa Fe 5030 next week also... ain't that just great!!
