The Sun sets on a Narrow Gauge Caboose, it sounds like a ending... But here its just the end of a shift and the beginning of another, One crew goes home to rest and another comes on duty to nightwatch the Locomotives.. We vow to never let the sun set here... America's Most Spectacular Narrow Gauge Railroad will send two trains out Saturday morning behind vintage Steam locomotives...

Say Hi to Krystal Robinson, she comes and helps the crew at Osier and also works with my Sister Vivian at the Hospital...

I have a few more picture's from Railfest 2005.... How about Locomotive 472 at Rockwood.

Both Fire Patrols were in Antonito this week, one was on a inspection trip and the other on regular fire patrol duty.

I am on the Train headed to Chama, my entire family and friends rode for a fun Saturday!! We are passing thru Long Creek Curve, in the background you can see Fire Patrol following us.

Conductor Ray Martinez, Ray has been a friend of mine for years... I still remember the day when he heard he was a new father.. for the first time, what a guy, always a smile on his face. I have never seen him in a bad mood... as a Brakeman I learned alot from Ray and consider him a great friend and Railroad teacher....

Coming across Los Pinos Trestle...

I love the big valley and the beautiful stream running thru it.

We are now headed down hill at Cresco, we pass the tank and roll over the trestle.

This makes for a great photo... a water tank next to a wooden trestle.

Bobby on the fire patrol comes across the trestle and passes a photographer.

Across the Road crossing and into Cresco siding..

We have just come off the 4% grade and Ronnie has the train climbing out of Lobato Trestle...

I love this shot, What a railroad we have here.

I used the zoom to get these shots and was happy with the way they came out.

Well here I am with Carmen, she is a employee at Osier and has been a friend of mine for a long time.. she always has a smile and is so nice.. thanks Carmen for being a friend!!

Bobby is on our tail watching for anything out of the ordinary....

I know its a Movie Prop, but that is a beautiful tank and it fits well along this section of the railroad.

A look at the original tank supports.

They are made of rock and still sit securely in the ground.

There is actually a big hole under the tank... not sure what goes in there.

The ladder has since fallen down.. probably better so that somebody doesn't try to climb up on top of this tank.

A look at the timbers under the tank.

The timbers have a sealant of some kind coming out of the woods, curious??

Its a Beautiful tank, I wish we could restore to working condition..

A look thru the Supports on Lava Tank.

A last view of Lava Tank before going over the edge of the Mesa and back down to my truck.

A view of the stone work on the window frames and there are hinges for possible shutters, I guess.

I love the work on the wall, different sized stones...

And another of my wonderful friends at Osier is Breann, she is another of my friends who always has a smile and has been a wonderful friend... she is a heck of a baseball player, I have sat many times amazed at her talents on the softball field.

This is the west side of the exterior wall.

A look at the south wall and the roof, its getting a little thin.

Thru the window looking south.

The Interior of the House..

Another view of the Lava Pump House.

Here is Engineer Ronnie Lopez and his Father Mr Lopez... what a bunch of great guys... my father and Ronnie's father were born on the same day!!!

Alfonso is working on 484 in the Chama Shop.. 484 is in the shop for a boiler wash and to have a staybolt replaced..

The water drains out of the tender thru the tank hose...

And guess what.. 489 is in the shop in chama.

This is the backhead...

Some of the staybolts have been previously worked on and I will keep up with the work that is done on 489.

You can see the mapping that was done on the boiler to determine the thickness of the boiler shell.

You can see the staybolts that have been removed, a corresponding section of the firebox sheet has been removed inside.

A close up of the removed staybolts.

The front of 489... I will keep you informed on 489's rebuild.

484 in the shop in Chama.

A look at 489 and 484 in the Chama shop.

Outside 488 sits on the main waiting for departure, Helper 487 will lead the way...

A look at both 487 and 488 on Tuesdays train.

I am on 488 over Lobato Trestle... Helper 487 is backing to us to make the couple.

When 487 couples we will transfer the Air brake control to them and we will resume our climb up Cumbres Pass.

At Cumbres, 487 backs down the wye leg as we prepare to depart Cumbres for Osier.

Well during my visit to Railfest, I came upon a Special Train at Rockwood.

It is backing into the station at Rockwood, I love that Caboose.

I loved the consist on this train....

This car looks great on the Flatcar.... I wonder who it belongs to???

Locomotive 472 is in control of the Train....

Locomotive 486 and a single boxcar come into Rockwood on the main and meet 472.

Locomotive 486 is on its way to Durango.

Engineer Scott Shewmake and Fireman Travis Wheeler have 486 rolling thru Rockwood.

Locomotive 472 at Rockwood.

I think it looks great....

The Green is different, but I must say I really like it, I think the Locomotive looked great....

A view more views of Santa Fe 5030... Take a look at what's left of the Engineers controls.

You can even see one of the Gauges...

A detailed look at the Throttle.

A look at the Firemans Controls..

Check out the Water Column. I hope you enjoyed your visit with Santa Fe 5030.

Thanks to Steven Dickey, we have some greats shots of Santa Fe 5000 being moved.

She's a Beautiful Locomotive.

They look right at home in front of that Locomotive.

The Business end of 5000.....

They brought in some equipment to move this Monster.

It looks like she is sitting on panel track and then they merely slide her around on the track section.

There she goes.

Looking to the fireman's side of the cab...

There is the builder plate and the Super heater plate.. upside down.

Now the Engineers side of the cab.

Thanks to Steven Dickey for these great shots.

Look what I found in Fort Knox in Antonito...

Its the New Heating System for the Antonito Shop, yeah....

It is being installed at the moment in the Antonito Shop.... it is Radiant heating and these are the exhaust fans.

Thursday we ran the second Double header of the week and hauled three freight cars in the consist between the locomotives... I will have a few more picture's but not many, with three cars in front of my locomotive, it kinda takes all my concentration and I had no time to pull out the camera...

If you like what you see, consider a donation!!! Just a DOLLAR, nothing more and anything less would make the envelope feel funny.. P.O. Box 323, Antonito, Colorado, 81120

We will see you next week, have a great weekend.
