Welcome to Embudo Water Tank... located on New Mexico State Highway 68. These picture's were taken over the weekend of December 2nd & 3rd.. the tank looks pretty good although the area around the tank seems to be collecting alot of trash!!

I would also like to thank John Chenoweth for his help in finding a N-gauge Caboose for me and to tell him I enjoyed talking with him this weekend, Thanks john!!!

A few shots from Chama Steam 2006....

Locomotives 487 and 488 at Cumbres as the Freight train is switched..

Locomotive 487 and 488.

Locomotive 488 gets ready to roll for Osier, Colorado.

Fireman Jose rides 488 as the train rolls ahead for switching..

Locomotive 484 is coming up to the switch, we will cut it out of the train...

Locomotive 484 pulls up to the switches...

Behind Drop Bottom Gondola 727, locomotive 484 will be cut out of the train.

Now to pull ahead the train and allow 484 into the siding..

Locomotive 487 and 484 at Cumbres..

I will show more from Chama Steam next week..

Now what are we looking at in this shot????  This is just a bit north of Embudo Water Tank and is in fact, the Narrow Gauge Main line between Antonito and Santa Fe on the Chili Line branch. At this point the Tracks have dropped low enough to follow the Rio Grande River south.

November 27th and I am chasing the ballast train with Ronnie and Max out of town..

I met Ronnie and the train out of town as I had to drive the Track Crews truck back to their location at milepost 284. I found a pack of donuts in the truck, so I ate them!! I figured that was my payment for my service of delivering the truck back to the crew!

I am the dump road crossing as the train makes the crossing, I love how this shot came out!!

Diesel 19 is doing 20 miles an hour on the slight downgrade to milepost 283..

Diesel 19 looks good doing her job, that locomotive has more than earned her new motors and wheels!!!

A shot thru the company trucks window.

Its afternoon and we are heading back to Antonito for another load of rock...

A local ranch is moving their cattle up along the railroad tracks.

Another look at the new track...

its looking great...

We are dumping rock just above milepost 290...

Diesel 19 and the EBT ballast hoppers pose for a picture.

A bit of snow rolls in on us!!

It's cold and snowy, but the rock ballasting has to go on...

Another shot from the Highway looking towards the Rio Grande River and the Rio Grande Roadbed of the Chili Line.

November 28th and the Tender tank of 489 is being lifted off the Frame and wheels. The tender has four brackets bolted to it and these are attached to the A-frames you see in the picture.. Basically we jack up, tighten the chains and presto the tank goes up!!! Then we just roll the wheels and frame out.

Anthony is on top of the tender handling the chains...

You can see the gap between the tank and frame..

A look at the front end of the tender...

Now I am not sure how to spell these, but you are looking at "keely hoses"!! They were used in case of a hot bearing, water would run from these to the journal boxes on the tender to keep the bearing cool. You are looking under the tank of the tender between the tank and frame.

Okay and here is the tender tank completely off the frame... It is supported by supports and chains from the A-frame.

You can see how the A-frame is chained to the tank and the supports underneath. All the A-frames and supports are hand made in our shop with used flues from the locomotives..

MW-02 sits on track three while the tank is on track four.

Looking north as the tracks began to climb out of the river valley towards Tres Peidras and No Aqua...

Now here is 489's tender frame...

It should be undergoing a complete sandblasting and inspection..

The trucks will be rebuilt and the brakes will undergo a rebuild.

Any worn or damaged metal will be replaced..

The frame sits outside on track four.. Diesel 19 came in from it's ballast duties for a new fuel line, which we repaired.

Another shot of Embudo Water Tank... hope you liked these picture's!!!

November 29th and we are still dumping ballast..

Here is a section of ballast we have just dumped above milepost 287.50.

We are at Milepost 289 and have just finished a section of ballast,

Diesel 19 poses at Milepost 289.

Now remember Diesel 19 came from Hawaii, so it doesn't have any cab heaters... on a below zero morning and we have had a few, the cab can be a bit cold. Ronnie brought a heater from home to keep us warm in the cab.

Heading fully loaded to our next dump zone in a snowstorm.

Diesel 19 is on the job even in the cold weather..

Across Ferguson trestle, in route to milepost 289.50.

Now once again, Diesel 19 is a warm weather locomotive, so it's a bit drafty!!! The snow gets in just a bit!!!

Diesel 19 poses at Milepost 287.50 on the trestle.

I never realized how high this trestle was until we stopped here to dump ballast.

Thought you might like this shot..

I think Diesel 19 looks great in this shot..

November 30th, 10 degree's below zero and we are rolling out of town for our last day of Ballast dumping.

The MOW project will be shut down for the winter and we will return March 1st 2007 to the track work..

Mount Blanca looms in the background, freshly covered with snow!

Hope you like the shots from this very cold morning..

Diesel 19 poses at the loading zone..

I thought this shot looked good.

Diesel 19 will soon take a rest as it goes into its rebuild.

We have dumped our last load of Ballast for 2006...

We ended our project with nearly 10 1/2 miles of freshly ballasted track.

Max takes a jump into the car to get all the ballast out...

Diesel 19 poses on the trestle...

Now I know my buddy likes shots of the EBT hoppers, so here are a few just for you!

One of the Hoppers sits on the Trestle...

Max returns to Diesel 19 on this cold day... hope you have enjoyed the picture's of our MOW work!!!

Now that is how you park a boxcar in downtown Santa Fe.... Welcome to the Santa Fe Southern Railroad...

I love this place, this is one of my favorite railroads...

The Caboose and one of the Santa Fe Southern Locomotive's.

Now I wanted to show you this, the SFS has painted one of their passenger cars and I think it looks great!!!

I love this new logo and paint job, Beautiful.

Take a second and visit this railroad, they have a great schedule and a excellent ride!!

Hope you have enjoyed this small visit to the Santa Fe Southern... See ya next week.. We are going to fire up 487 for the Christmas Trains.... Carlos!
