Thanks to Steven Dickey for
a great shot of Cumbres in December... Thanks Steven. |
I love this little Switcher
Locomotive, Thanks to Chris McEwan for another collection of his
great shots, Thanks Chris... |
Welcome back to the Chama Shop.... |
Tools of the trade, I love the way this picture
came out. |
You can see the 487 to the left, 488 to the right
and a driver axle on the Wheel Lathe. |
Now a look at the pilot beam of 488. |
The guys are still working on getting this machine
just right... |
Now check this out, the guys are actually running
a Bissell Post on the Wheel lathe and are making sure it is just
right on specifications, so it will ride smooth once its put back
into a Locomotive. |
Here is another shot of the Bissell Post being
machined to square its dimensions out. |
Now here are two Driver Wheel Axle's, they just
have to machined to fit first! |
The guys took all the Crown Brass boxes out to
clean them and check them for any problems, they are now waiting for
re-installation once everything else is checked out. |
A closer picture of the Crown Brass Boxes. |
Another shot of all the Brass Driver Boxes. |
These are a couple of axles the guys will work on,
they will press the old wheels out and press on new wheels on to the
axles with the wheel press the guys have in the shop. Someday I hope
to get video of the process for you... |
Good Ole' 497 waiting for its turn to someday ride
the rails again. |
You are looking at a sleeve being machined on the
lathe, this will fit around the Bissell post. |
A good look at 488's smokebox door... |
Another look at 488, the guys are going thru the
smokeboxes and checking everything to make sure the locomotives are
just right for the summer. |
A view of 484's driver axles and 487 in the
background. |
Another shot of 488, I like these types of shots
and take more than a few of them every time I have a chance. |
The driver axles and 487... |
488 waits patiently in the Chama shop. |
Locomotive 484 sits outside while work is
concentrated on 487. |
484 is a Great Machine, the guys in Chama did a
Great Job on her... |
Locomotive 484 has its wheels out and you will
remember from the last update, the drivers are going thru a clean up
on the Wheel Lathe. |
484 cab while it sits on the shop trucks. |
These device's are actually the supports that sit
over the Crown Brass boxes and hold the driver box springs. They
distribute the weight of the locomotive over the driver axles. |
Another of Chris McEwan's
Shots... How about this trolley in Germany. |
Welcome again to the Mesilla
Valley Balloon Rally in Las Cruces, New Mexico. |
I had a great time and enjoyed
spending time with the Balloon Crew. |
I was also extremely lucky to meet
somebody very famous. |
Our crew is looking into the interior
of a "Piccard" Balloon. |
The Piccard family were actually
pioneers in Hot Air Ballooning and Deep Sea Diving. |
The Balloons launch from the field on
Sunday, but as the winds were fast above, our pilot decided to pass
on flying that day... |
The day was beautiful, but higher
winds a few hundred feet up got the balloons moving away from the
field pretty quick. |
The balloons lift off in the
background as the "Piccard" balloons stands up to the left. |
I was lucky to be able to get close
to this balloon and take a picture of the interior of the balloon. |
Next week I will introduce you to Don
Piccard and share a little more with you about his Family and
introduce you to this "Piccard" Balloon in the picture. |
Now another look at these
old Trolleys, they have survived dismantling and wait for
Restoration. Thanks Chris. |
Now here is shots of Sargents,
Colorado... Thanks to Steven for these shots.. Anybody know what
this building was?????? |
And how about 268 in Gunnison,
Colorado.... that locomotive looks Beautiful.. |
And another shot of Sargents by
Steven Dickey, Thanks Steven. |
Back to our run over La Veta
Pass, we are now descending the grade to the town of La Veta,
Colorado. |
The rock formations are beautiful.... |
In the background is Maestas
Mountain.... |
La Veta Pass is absolutely beautiful,
I wish I could take everybody I know for a ride. |
Looking back to the train as the
freight cars exit the second tunnel. |
Now across the valley near Occidental
you can see the remnants of another railroad that served a Coal
Mine... the rock work on the grade is beautiful. |
Passing thru Occidental Siding. |
At one there was a Spur that went
away from the mainline and served this Mine, you can see the grade
if you look closely in the picture... its right above the thin line
of tree's about in the middle of the picture. |
At one point, a Bad Strike at the
mine broke out into a war and resulted in this Sentry Post being
built to protect the Area, can you see the round rock tower... right
in the middle of the picture. |
Rolling down into the La Veta
Valley.... |
We are now passing the La Veta Siding
and there are actually San Luis Central Reefers waiting to go west
over La Veta Pass to Alamosa. |
Now we are passing thru the Town of
La Veta, the track to the left turns into the Wye... |
And we made it, the town of
Walsenburg is just ahead, what a great trip.. Soon I will take you
back over La Veta to Alamosa. |
Thanks to Chris, here is the
Lenox to Stockbridge train in Massachusetts. |
I love this shot, great Job
Chris and thank you... |
