The Flowers Bloom in Chama.... |
Friends and Lovers Balloon
Rally in Alburquerque, New Mexico. Down Under, up in the Air. |
Good Morning, its Tuesday and the sun is
rising on the Motorcars. |
We have quite a collection of Motorcars here, there
is the Bumble-Bee, the Diesel that needs to be repaired and the Air
Compressor. |
And now here is 012, its been given a new number,
but its still 012 to us!!! |
012 is being called in to action today for a Special
run, all the Track Crew is onboard and they will see how
far they can get up the line today... |
Well there they go... That evening the track crew
informed us that they made it from Antonito to Milepost 323, which
is west past Osier a few miles. The Chama track crew is working on
the west side, but as of May 2nd, the track is open from Antonito for 43 miles.
Replacing ties, the Track Crew is in sight
of the Antonito Depot. |
Tie by Tie, Spike by Spike, Rail by Rail.... two
threads of Steel 64 miles long, a place for the Iron Horses to
run..... |
Orlando and Julian slide in a new tie.... |
The old has been pulled out and the new replaces it. |

The Guys use a Pneumatic
Spiker to drive the spikes into the ties, the used ties we bought
are Oak and require the Spiker to drive the spikes. |
With a little slack, A tie plate slides in under the
rail. |
The Track Crew pauses for my Camera. |
Back to work.... |
I loved the way these picture's came out, I hope you
liked a behind the scene's view of the track crew. |
More Balloons stand up..... |
Welcome to Chama, you can see 487 and 488 in
the shop.. |
Locomotive 487.. |
and Locomotive 488... |
Tommy is working on polishing down a Crank pin a
little, he is working on the 487 and they are working on putting on
the rods. |
You can see the clean crank pins on 487, in later
picture's I will show you the rods being put on. |
Locomotive 488 is ready to roll, they are re-packing
the Grease Cellars and I think if my info is right, 488 will make a
crossing of the railroad next week!!! |
Now how many places in the world can you see a view
like this... 2006 and two steam locomotives sit in a shop being
repaired. |
A view of 487, 487 will undergo a hydro-test and the
front end needs to be open for the test. |
Another shot of 487 and 488. |
488 is over the pit and is having its grease cellars
repacked. |
Now a look at 488's complete interior. In a matter of
days I will be in that cab sweating in heat and humidity, roasting
from the fire in the firebox and getting that sweaty and yucky
feeling... I can't wait!!! |
The Cab of 488... |
I am in the cab of 488 and looking down thru the
