|
Here is Cumbres & Toltec Machinist Tommy, he is
working on polishing a crank pin. |
|
Conductor Sam Ruybal and Maureen Schein!!! |
|
Here we are at the Osier Building, the
Antonito Train Crew is up in Osier doing our share to get it ready
for the summer. We turned on the water and removed the shutters from
the windows. We chained
the Lift to the flat trailer and then used this set up to get the
shutters off and down to the ground. |
|
Welcome to Antonito, we are setting up the
trains..... Ronnie on
Diesel 19 backs a cut of cars to Sam and the New Mexico Train being
set up on the main. |
|
Now starting from the rear, here comes the Open car
and the first passenger coach for the New Mexico Train. We are
setting that train up on the new track. |
|
Now the Parlor Car and two cars are set up. |
|
Now we will pull coaches and set them over to the new
track. |
|
You can see cars on both tracks, to the right on the
loop and on the left on the new track to the Car Repair Shop. |
|
Pulling out of the New Track, Diesel 19 returns to
the main. |
|
Now we will sort cars back to the shop, two of the
Chama Coaches will ride out on Mondays Train for the Pre-School
Children's train ride to Lava, New Mexico. |
|
Diesel 19 is hooked up on the main... thought you
might like this shot from a different perspective... |
|
Now thank goodness Anthony isn't afraid of
heights, he jumped right up on the lift and went up to the second
story. |
|
The Pre-School Children from the local
Headstart and the school in Sanford, Colorado helped do a little
clean up in the Antonito Yard.. |
|
We shut down the Antonito Yard, no movement was
allowed for this time period and the employees took groups of
children around the yard picking up papers and stuff. |
|
The kids really swept the yard clean..... |
|
Here is one of the Classes...that's Alonzo's Class!!! |
|
And here is Mary's class |
|
And there is Wilma....Remember my friend Sheryl from
the Halloween update, that's is Sheryl's mom Wilma. |
|
Conductor Sam really got into it and helped the kids
and chatted with them about the railroad.. |
|
Here is another one of the classes... |
|
After they finished the kids boarded the buses driven
by Betsy and Tracy and were on the way back to school... thanks
little Volunteers... In a future update I
will take you along for the two private trains we ran for these kids
from Antonito to Lava, New Mexico. |
|
The Job is done and the shutters are loaded
on the trailer, we will take them to Antonito for storage and we are
done for the day... |
|
Tuesday morning, Chama, New Mexico... 487
and 488 sit steamed up together. |
|
Ronnie and I will stretch 488's legs and take over
the entire line to Antonito today.. |
|
Now I must admit I always nervous to roll the
locomotives out for their first runs. |
|
Ronnie and I will be on 488 and behind for fire
protection will be Marvin Valdez on the Chama based Fire Patrol. |
|
Locomotive 487 was actually assisting 488 in steaming
up.. they can connect a line between the locomotives and run steam
between both of them. |

Marvin and Fire Patrol arrive, both Marvin and Bobby
rode the Fire Patrol and they also had a newly hired Gentleman
aboard as part of his training runs. |
|
Locomotive 488 arrives at Cumbres after passing thru
a Hail storm below Windy Point. |
|
After the climb to Cumbres, Ronnie steams down the
cab to clean her up a little.. me and Ronnie are kinda picky and
like a clean cab.
When you spend 10 hours a day in these cabs, you
make them Comfortable... |
|
Extra 488 and Fire Patrol arrive at Osier. |
|
Locomotive 488 at Osier, we had one crank pin run a
little warm, but other that that she ran great. |
|
Marvin walks back to the Fire Patrol and Ronnie
prepares to climb aboard 488, in a few we will be on our way to
Antonito. |

|
The train is facing the wrong way actually..
Locomotive 488 will pull the train around the loop in Antonito and
it will be set up and ready for delivery to Chama. |
|
