Welcome to Osier, Colorado.. October the 18th.

Santa Maria Valley #9.  It was built by Fairmont in 1932.  Has a 40 H.P Model A Ford engine, with a 4-speed Model AA truck transmission.  It carries 12 passengers, six on a bench seat along each side.  This is the big Brother to MW-02. Thanks to my Buddy Jim Baker for this great shot.

Thanks to Casey Akin for these great shots of one of his models, that's a beauty Casey, Thanks....

Its Monday and we are on our way to Milepost 296 with a load of ties for the track crew... We have begun our huge push to upgrade the track structure out of Antonito.

Arrival at Milepost 296.... you can see the track crews waiting for us.

Rolling downgrade as the Track crew throws ties from the loaded car.

Heading back into Antonito over the freshly ballasted track.

Its pretty cool to see so much track under ballast!

Now trust me, when we are on the work trains.. we get no break and a short lunch, we have to keep our self's supplied with food.. Funyons, Chewy candy, Ronnie's home made cookies and Coca cola.

I would like to thank Julian for helping on the ballast trains, he is heading to the dump location with us and is having his lunch.

Ronnie's drinking his coffee, time to start another day.

Nov 7th and the Great Tamping adventure begins out of Antonito.

We began the ballast right at the road crossing and that's where the tamper crew began...

Julian on the company backhoe loads the ballast car with rock.

We are approaching a dump location, Ronnie leans out of the cab to see the spot on the ground where the last ballast drop ended.

Diesel 19 and the ballast cars at Ferguson Trestle, we will begin a rock dump at this location.

Nov 8th 2006 and the Tamper is working west on the mainline... Toby is at the controls!!!

You can see Toby working, I have to tell you the track is looking great...

I have never seen the track so level, its a beautiful thing.

Diesel 19 in the background is being loaded as the Tamper works the mainline.

Take a look at the track, beautiful!!! Next week the Regulator will be back to resurface the ballast and fill in the empty spots.

A look at Ferguson Trestle under ballast, we had to stop short of the Trestle to avoid any damage while dumping rock. The regulator will fill in the gaps.

November 9th 2006 and the Tamper is still working west from Antonito.

The Track is looking awesome.

I will get this young man's name for you next week, but he is being trained as a second operator on the Tamper Machine.

The Tamper machine continues to work west...

I love this machine, such a fun thing to watch.

Its the afternoon and the track crews have gathered on the main waiting for their turn into the yard in Antonito.

First the Tamper will roll into the CRF track, then Diesel 19 into the Main, the Ballast Regulator into the Display Spur track and the Motor Car on the loop near the fuel track.

We are following the Tamper into Antonito, after track crews have cleared we will return to load and haul our last load of ballast for the day.

The sun is setting and we are making our way to Milepost 286.60.

The setting sun lights up Ronnie and Diesel 19...

We are in Osier to close up the building for the winter.

November 2nd and I am on the roof of the shop...

On top of repairing passenger cars and locomotives and motor cars and backhoe's.... we now have to fix our own roof.

We had a leak so our Brakeman Anthony is leading the charge to fix the roof...

Thought I could get a few shots for you while I was up there for a few minute's.

Diesel 19 on track three from up above..

Anthony and Ronnie hard at work..

Anthony is a experienced Home Builder so he is the perfect guy for the Job!

I didn't get very close to the edge..

The sun is going down on the Antonito Shop for the Day.

A look south...

Towards the new track where the motor cars are..

And the Guys finish up for the day.

Here is Ronnie and Anthony coming down on the lift...

Osier Tank has a few leaks, so.... the ice collects on the side!  It will be a huge block by spring.

October 16th and we are moving a few cars back to Chama, New Mexico..

The Caboose's will be used on Chama Steam and then will be shipped back to Antonito for the winter.

Caboose 0306 and Diesel 19...

The Crew, Caboose's and Diesel 19...

These cars will remain in Chama for the Christmas Train.

The train arrives in Chama, those caboose's look great together.

Locomotive 488 at Cumbres... I was curious about which locomotive's stayed where this winter, Locomotive 487 needs the most work and its spending the winter in Antonito. I would have preferred to leave 487 in Chama for the winter and let the guys work on the valve's and timing.

Well that's that guys and ladies... hope you liked the picture's.

Icicles and the Osier Depot.

Good Morning, its day two for the Trains Unlimited Special.

I am on 488 passing 484 and the passenger train at Osier.

Locomotive's 484 and 488.

Love that shot...

We are leaving Osier, Colorado.

Passing thru Martinez Cut.

A good look at the train.

Crossing Cascade trestle.

That looks like the 50's.

Locomotive 488 west of Cascade Trestle.

The Whistle Post and 488.

I am on the 488's tender taking water from the Los Pinos Tank.

Locomotive 488 takes a break at the old Highway Crossing.

Osier Water Tank... October 18th 2006.

October 18th and a light snow sits at Cumbres.

October 18th and Ronnie and I have come to bring Diesel 19 home, Diesel 19 calls Antonito home and is stationed there.

Hey might as well dump some ballast while we are here...

Marvin is on the Loader and is putting the last of the ballast into the cars.

Later, the loader will be trucked home to Antonito.

Diesel 19 at Cumbres..

Diesel 19 and the three Ballast cars at Cumbres.

We had to use the parking space at Cumbres for the ballast storage!

Diesel 19 at Cumbres.

Marvin on the loader at Cumbres, even with the loader it takes a while to get the cars full!

Diesel 19 from the rail level.

Good Ole' Diesel 19.

Marvin loading the cars.

A look at the EBT Hoppers.

Soon we will be on our way, we plan on dumping ballast at Milepost 328.50 today.

Goodbye Cumbres for the Winter. I will have more of this day later..

The Osier Depot sits alone in the snow.

The glowing innards of locomotive 487.

Welcome back to Chama Steam 2006.

Away from the Highway and the train is climbing towards Coxo..

We are still below Garcia's Trailer and we are passing milepost 334.

All three locomotives climb the Hill..

Out the fireman's side of locomotive 487.

Just under Garcia's trailer at the covered trestles.

Just below the Trailer, we are getting back to the highway.

And into Coxo Curve we go...

We had five flat cars between the locomotives, I admit I was a bit nervous...

But we throttled down and then rolled thru Coxo Curve and went full throttle again and pulled out of Coxo no problem...

Making the climb to Windy Point

Another look at the fire of 487, I am sorry I have to spread these around so much, but I took alot of picture's.

Goodbye to Osier, see ya next year... and I will see you later next week.
