Can you see the colors of Dirt in this Cut, This is the "Neopolitan Ice Cream " cut just west of Sublette, New Mexico... The dirt looks like Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry...

Okay this may be hard to Explain, we are at Blanca on a San Luis & Rio Grande train! On the siding are stored Center Beam Cars! Now look thru the cars, can you see that track heading out to the right in the picture, That is the still intact Southern San Luis Valley railroad track...thought you might like!!!

October 2nd and Locomotive 487 is Antonito on the Trains Unlimited Special..

Locomotive 487 in Antonito in Rio Grande lettering.

Old Rio Grande Veterans... MW-02 and Locomotive 487.

It looks great doesn't it..

Caboose 0579 brings up the rear of the photo freight.

Caboose 0579 in Antonito.

Locomotive 488 in the setting sun...

Locomotive 487 and 488, love the glow of the sun.

Locomotive 488 waits for the nightwatchman.

Looks great in Rio Grande lettering.

Another beautiful day on the Cumbres & Toltec.

There is Caboose 0579, the Antonito Depot and me in the picture.

Caboose 0579 in the warm sun...

The Caboose is just beautiful....

Caboose 0579 and 487 in Antonito.

Love the light in this shot, Antonito can have some very beautiful sunsets and they light up the yard beautifully.

Good Morning 488 and Antonito......

Jeff is firing the 487 as we climb Cumbres, thought you might like this!!! Steam from 487 drifts into the cab and is sucked up into the firebox, the glow of the fire makes the steam glow.... kinda spooky huh!!

We are on onboard 487 in the lead on the triple headed Chama Steam 2006!!!

D&RGW Flanger 0L and Locomotive 488... Locomotive 487 lead with Flanger 0L and Locomotive 488 and 484 cut in a few cars behind 488.

Locomotive 488 and Flanger 0L.

On 487, we have pulled up the train to load the passengers!  Just to show you how long the train is... the Caboose's are at the station and the lead locomotive on the train is way past the tank.. pretty cool, Huh!!

We are rolling now, I am on 487 with 488 and 484 following along.

All three locomotives are working together and we are easily lifting the cars thru the curve below Lobato...

Well, I will have alot more from Chama Steam 2006... keep your eyes open for the next updates!!!

A ghost like stream of steam gets sucked into the firebox of 487...

A photo of a snowy day on Cumbres, thanks to Phillip Walters.

On October 16th, we moved a few passenger cars back to Chama along with the Caboose's.

The Cars will be used on the 2006 Christmas Train out of Chama and the Caboose's were to used on the Chama Steam 2006 freight and it was a great show, check out the picture's above and in weeks to come!!!

The train paused at Sublette for water as usual and I took a few pic's for you out there in Internet Land!!

The train stopped at Sublette...

The Rio Grande shines again at Osier....

Rio Grande 488 at osier, Colorado.... maybe its 1952???

Crossing the Cascade trestle, I promise someday we will have all the cars painted the same!!!!!

Kinda funny to have that many cars and no passengers, heck no popcorn in the snack car, that was the hard thing to deal with!!

Coming around Tanglefoot Curve...

Look at the track, a little at a time.. the C&T Mainline gets covered in Ballast!

Rolling west we pass Diesel 19 in the hole at Cumbres, Ronnie and Marvin are loading rock....

As soon as we clear they will bend the iron and roll east from Cumbres... they are dumping ballast at Milepost 329.

The Motor cars are in the Snowshed at Cumbres, thanks to Phillip Walters for these great shots..

October 15th and I am on the Last run of the year over La Veta Pass on the San Luis & Rio Grande...

Can you see the track switching off to the right, that track allowed the Rio Grande to interchange with the Southern San Luis Valley Railroad.

Rolling downhill on La Veta Pass...

I know I include alot of picture's of the SL&RG, I just want you to experience La Veta Pass with me!!!

I know I am a extremely lucky guy to work both La Veta and Cumbres Pass on a regular basis, want to share that with you.

Another view of Maestas Mountain...

Approaching the Middle Tunnel...

Ready to duck into the tunnel.

This area was beautiful during the Fall colors, you just have to see it next year..

Continuing downgrade...

Rolling thru the Barley Curve, a run away train left the tracks here a few years back.. parts of the cars are still here as is all the Coors Barley!! Great place to see Bears!!!

The Natural cut, it is said this cut existed before the railroad got here... the construction crews didn't have to cut the rock, the cut was all ready there, they just laid the track thru the natural cut.

A couple of miles more to La Veta...

Leaving La Veta for the last time this year.... see ya next year.

SL&RG employee Jayne rides the ex-UP Post Office car bound for Alamosa.

That's me putting water in a locomotive at Cumbres, thanks to Phillip Walters for these great shots...

Welcome aboard on my last regularly scheduled passenger train up Cumbres for 2006...

Making the first climb out of Chama above the Retainer tree and Broads Spur.

Climbing thru the Narrows.

Above Cresco tank...

Approaching the Dead Fish Rocks....

Climbing as we pass Milepost 333...

Below Coxo Siding...

The Motor Car Group at Cumbres Station... Thanks to Phillip Walters for this shot.

October 17th and welcome to Osier, Colorado... The Antonito Crew and I are here to close the building and winterize the place!!!

Thought you might like a few shots of Osier in Snow!!!

This is such a classical view...

Could be 40 years ago!!!!

The Osier Tank.....

There are my footprints going and coming!!!

Driving out of Osier...

I am driving the crew out and taking picture's....

The road here can get a bit challenging.

The weather begins to clear as we lose elevation....

A look at Milepost 305 from the Osier Road...its off to the right and below.

October 18th and before we take Diesel 19 back to its home Antonito for the winter, we will dump another three loads of Ballast.

I have alot of picture's for you in the coming weeks, I am sorry I have to spread them over a few weeks, but I took quite a bit to share with you!!

See you later, Carlos
