Rolling west just past Milepost 284, You can
see in this picture how green and beautiful the prairie is west of
Antonito thanks to the rain. |
Oh Hell... sorry about my language!!
You know sometimes, stuff happens... as a railroader you dust
yourself off, put everything back on the rails and move on.
More down below. |

Another shot of SL&RG

That's another of my Self-portraits. |
Locomotive 484 arrives at Osier, we will swap
Locomotives with 487 and 484 will return to Antonito with the
Moonlight Train. Jeremy will return to Chama with 487. |
Locomotive 484 at Osier in the setting sun. |
Here comes the Moonlight train from Antonito. |

What a beautiful meet at Osier... love the light. |
484 on the main and the Moonlight comes up the
siding.. |
Here comes good Ole' 487. |
487 passes 484 at Osier. |
Now for a little switching and the light is going
away quickly. |
Locomotive 484 backs to the Moonlight train pointing
east for Antonito. |
Locomotive 484 and a some what full moon at Sublette,
New Mexico. |

Locomotive 484 at Sublette... |
Ready to roll.... |
Locomotive 487 in Antonito... |
Marbella does a bit of cleaning in the snack car and the restrooms are
being dumped... 487 in Antonito. |
Good Ole' 7863, its a little
old, but it gets the job done. |
Okay the Pilots are on the ground.... |
Well the drivers are on the ground. |

Locomotive 484 tries to help 488 ride over the
Rerailer Frogs. |
Ducky on 488.... |
The 488 is in kind of a bind there... |
Now how did that happen... |
Well later on the guys and Marvin will get it figure
it out and 488 will be back on the rails, I have to go. |
That doesn't look good does it... but it happens and
you just fix it and move on. Locomotive 488 will head into the shop
for inspection and any necessary repairs. |
Engineer Ken Reece and
Conductor Randy Porco will move the train over the hill today. |
The machine shop continues to work in Chama
during the summer. |
A finished axle in Chama. |
Here the axle sits on the machine and will have its
wheel surfaces polished... |
This is actually a die of sorts and will help the
machine cut the perfect profile on the wheel surface. |
Two axles without wheels. |
Have a great trip Randy.... |
Rolling into Osier on a very wet day..... |
We are going into the siding and Diesel 19 and her
work train are on the main. |
Diesel 19 is running quite a huge work train... |
It has three flats and two ballast hoppers. |
The flats are empty as the track crew has already
dumped all the ties that were loaded on these cars. |
Diesel 19 will back the flats onto the rear of my
Passenger train and I will take them back to Antonito for reloading. |
Diesel 19 with Ronnie and Marvin will then take the
Ballast hoppers to Cumbres for loading. |
Another view of Osier.... |
Heading to Cumbres and I am passing over the freshly
laid down ballast just east of Cumbres just above the Tanglegoot
Curve. |
Diesel 19 and two ballast hoppers tied down at
Cumbres, the 19 was dumping ballast below windy point and two cars
can be handled safely on the 4 percent grade. |
Two Caboose's in Chama..... |
Two Locomotives in Antonito, one in the
front of the shop and one over the Ashpit. |
Another view of the two locomotives. |

This is D&RG Locomotive 7863 in La
Veta. |
All the way down in the weeds..... in
La Veta. |
Here is 7863 and the passenger train.
We are in La Veta in the siding right
in the yard, down the tracks is a freight train backing cars into La
Veta Siding! |
We came over the pass on 7863 and we
will hook on two more locomotives for the run back to Alamosa. The
freight crew is a little burned out and we will deadhead them and
their locomotives on the passenger train to Alamosa so they can
rest. |
We are heading back to Alamosa with
the freight locomotives and the passenger train. |
Rolling west, east of Fort Garland. |
What a beautiful view, thanks to the
rain, the San Luis Valley is so green. |
Checking on 7863 as we roll across
the valley. |
That's a good ole' Locomotive. |
Locomotive 488 having its fire cleaned in
