Now I must say I have enjoyed working with
Emily, she is one of the Car Maintenance personal in Antonito, but
she is sooooo shy. This is about the only picture I am ever going to
get of her. Here she is putting water in one of the restroom cars in
Antonito. She is another one of the second generation employees on
the C&T, her father Joseph has been with the track crew for years
and helped on the 487 rebuild in Antonito... You remember!!! |
Hello, welcome back to the
Santa Fe Southern... I love this place. |
August 10th and I am on a Helper run up
Cumbres with the last Cinder Bear train of the season... |
The train was fifteen cars long, I am on the Road
Locomotive and the front part of the train will continue with me all
the way to Antonito. |
The Helper Locomotive and the rear of the train will
return to Chama from Cumbres as the Cinder Bear Train. |
Fireman Marvin Valdez uncouples the Helper. Road
fireman uncouples the Helper, Helper fireman couples back the
Helper... kind of a tradition I guess. Don't know if there is any
history to that.. |
The Helper pulls away from me and the train. |
I have pulled the train across the trestle and Helper
Fireman Max Casias is hooking us back together. |
Double-heading above Dalton. |
We have reached the summit and the Helper is pulling
away. |
The Helper will turn on the wye and take control of
the rear portion of the train. |
This is a view of train looking to the rear. If you
look over the Open Car, you should be able to see the Helper
locomotive turned and ready to take control of the Cinder Bear
Train. |
Locomotive 488 at Cumbres. |
We are doing a Brake test and the time allows for me
to inspect my Locomotive and take a picture or two for you.. |

Passing the track crew at Toltec.. |
You can see the blades of the regulator have been
getting some action clearing mud, we have been getting hammered by
the rain in the canyon. |
Another beautiful evening in Antonito. |
I thought you might like a few cool evening shots of
488. |
I like clouds, you might notice that in my
photography. This evening some huge storm clouds were building in
the east, thought they made a great background for 488. |
We were taken a few extra minutes to empty the trains
restrooms.. gave me a opportunity to take picture's for you. |
Another cool shot of 488. |
Looking thru the cab window of 488 to Diesel 19. |
This is closer to my actual view... |
One of the newly painted coaches against the clouds. |
I love this time of the evening, the light was
beautiful. |
The classic pose, 488 at the water tank. |

Passing the track crew at Los Pinos..... |
The guys are working around this area now and the Los
Pinos Siding works to both clear the crews for the train and to
store the equipment at night. |
