Okay now we have a puzzle
for all of us to figure out. I don't know and I want to you all to
help me out. North of Villa Grove, just off the highway about 200
yards is this water tank or the base of it anyway. Does anybody have
a name and or milepost for this tank. This area is what I think is
called the Round Hill area right. I jumped the fence and walked out
there to get these shots for you... Hope you like!! |
|
The tank is gone and has been for a
while, but the base is in great shape. |
|
And the valve, check out the
valve.... |
|
A more complete shot of the base.
Alright thanks
to my buddy Larry Gibson, this is in fact the Round hill tank at MP
232.86. The Round Hill Water tank is at a Elevation of 8,687!
Thanks Larry!!!
I will also include a few more
shots in another update!! |
|
Now after 484 rolled, they had to drop the
fire..... so over the ashpit she went. |
|
The ashes are being dropped, but I wasn't fast enough
to catch them in mid-air. |
|
Now you are under the rails looking up thru the open
ashpan doors to the bottom of the grates where you can see the fire.
Those circles are where the Air shoots up into, or is actually
sucked up into the firebox for the fire. |
|
I am just below rail level and Jose is blowing ashes
out of the ashpan. |
|
Right at rail level. |
|
Looking forward from the same position. That is the
Number 1 driver wheel and the Pilot Axle wheel. |
|
Have you ever been this close to the rail and a
driver wheel??? |
|
Now I am between the wheels and in the ashpit looking
to the rear of the locomotive. Hope you liked these shots. |
|
Inside the door looking up, I love
that all the plumbing is still intact. |
|
The door of the tank. |
|
Standing on the right of way looking
south at the Tank Base.. |
|
Now a look at the removed driver wheels of
489 in Chama. |
|
As I understood, the running gear of 489 wasn't all
that bad, but why not do it right the first time, Huh!! |
|
The guys have learned alot from experience and will
rebuild the 489's running gear. |
|
I like this shot..... |
|
Now here is removed Pilot Truck from 489. |
|
I am assuming the guys will rebuild the truck
completely as well as the Bissell post and all other items. |
|
Locomotive 487's headlight shines brightly
at Osier as we prepare to depart for Chama on the Moonlight run.
I am sorry, these July updates are a little
lame, but I lost some photos in my "Great Computer Crash of 2006".
Thanks everybody, Carlos |
