Thanks to Zack Blea's Picture's, we can again experience the Christmas Train out of Antonito. In this photo we are on Caboose 0579 and are backing down the connecting track at Lava, you can see how the switch is lined!!

Rolling back to Antonito on the rear platform of Caboose 0579, we are passing over the ballast we put down.

The Christmas Train is rolling around the top loop of Gravity Hill and is ready to descend to the state line.

Rolling over the state line, you can see the gap in the ballast over the Cattle Guard.  Thanks Zack!!

Welcome to the Antonito Shop, its the 9th of January and work continues on Diesel 19.

We are continuing to disassemble Diesel 19 for its new motors!

I must admit we are a bit scared, this kind of work has never been done in any shop on the C&T and we are approaching the project very carefully.

The first step requires that we remove all covers over the motors to get to the motors!! We started with the number two motor and this what you can see in the picture. I apologize, the Diesel 19 looks a bit messy in the picture's and it has been messy, we are doing everything we can and are being extra careful to contain ever drop of waste oil and are saving the prestone. We are lucky to have a oil burning clean heater in the shop and this is how we are disposing of the oil.

I am sorry I was unable to actually get shots of the motor being removed, but I was needed!! Here the loader is moving the number 2 removed motor away from the shop.

Very carefully the Front end loader moves the motor away from the shop. It will be inspected by the gentleman from Caterpillar Motors. This motor was just at about the maximum load weight for the loader.

Here you can see how Diesel 19 looks like without its Number 2 Motor. Anthony is standing next to our new project, we will now have to remove the Generator.

Ronnie, Anthony and I have done most of the disassembly, although all the guys help when we need it.

The Diesel 19 is looking pretty scarey in this stage.

The Tender Frame of Locomotive 489 has been cleaned, sand-blasted and primer painted to protect it from rust. We will replace a few sections of metal and the trucks are being moved into the shop for rebuild.

This is the rear truck of Tender 489. It has been moved into track three for repair and rebuild, I understand we will be replacing the axles with new ones.

Marvin, Max and Sam are doing the work on this truck, I must admit, removing those bolts is complete hell... sorry for my language, but that is hard work. Once they are done the bolts will be cleaned and more than likely re-used, they will clean all the parts and repair any wear on the bolsters and boxes and such.

Its the 10th of January and we are preparing to remove the number 1 motor compartment.

Ronnie is running the loader and Anthony and I set the chains, we have lifted the cover off 19.

Carefully we will store the covers on the Idler flat car.

Diesel 19 sits on Track Two with both of its motor compartments off.

Diesel 19 is back inside, we will loosen all the bolts, drain the fluids and prepare to remove the second motor.

As you can see, we have already removed the Radiator. We are unsure as to what we are going to do with these motors and radiators as they will not be needed when the new motors are delivered.

Diesel 19 and Locomotive 487 share the shop in Antonito.

Anthony is preparing the chains as we prepare to lift the second motor off

I am on the generator compartment looking down to motor and Anthony.

The second motor is put in storage.

Diesel 19 with both of its motor removed, she looks kinda empty.

Alot of progress has been made on Locomotive 489's tender tank, I will get shots for you next week.

Watching the track roll away thru the rear window of Caboose 0579..

You know this picture could easily have been taken in the fifties if it wasn't for those new trucks in the background.

Locomotive 487 pulling out of the snowshed...

Rolling down the leg of the wye at Cumbres.

Locomotive 487 looks good doesn't she.

Rolling down the Wye to the main.

Welcome back to the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Now isn't this the best looking Stub switch you have ever seen, I love this thing. I wish we had a few stub switches on the C&T, there is a beauty of a stub switch on the D&S at Rockwood on the end of the wye, its a beauty.

A look at the Turntable at the Museum.

I love this Locomotive, its a beauty.

This view of the Turntable and Locomotives came out great also..

Now I didn't plan this, but if you lay this picture and the one below next to each other you can get a bit of a panoramic view.

Part two, print these out and see if you get a good view of the turntable.

Locomotive 191 and Caboose 0585... Now am I right in saying 191 is the oldest locomotive in Colorado... Help me out with one!!!

The nose of 191, what a beautiful locomotive.

Locomotive 12 at the Museum, this locomotive is a beauty.

I love this locomotive, love that nose.

Denver & Salt Lake Caboose 10060, that one is a beauty, I love Caboose's and that one is good looking.
