February 3rd and I am climbing La Veta Pass... Check out the snow!!

Jan the 30th 2007, we are back on the job from the weekend and working hard.. Anthony and I are drilling holes, soon we will begin riveting the tender!

Here is a look at the new metal that has been applied at the bottom of 489's tender. We have already installed rivets on this section.

Now a look at a older section of 489's tender, this is near the top at the tank well on the engineers side of the tender! Can you see the numbers stamped on the tender from the factory.. those are old!!

A look at the new metal and rivets installed on 489's tender.

A closer look at the new metal and rivets, now why are we replacing this much metal instead of building a whole new tank, well because that's what the bosses want, so we do it!!!

Another look at our Rivet work... there are a few empty holes, we ran out of rivets and are waiting for a new batch to come in!

Jan 31st and we are going to prepare the Diesel 19 to be jacked up!! We will move Diesel 19 from the shops and into the Display Spur track where we will jack it up and remove a truck set.

We had to plow a place for Diesel 19 to sit.

Tender 489's frame is still waiting, it will still be a while before we place the tank back onto the frame.

Diesel 19 rolls out of Track 2 in the shop!!

Anthony watches Diesel 19 carefully, now that it is lighter we were worried about a Ice derailment..

Diesel 19 rolling to the spur switch...

Took us nearly a hour to defrost the switch and throw it.

Diesel 19 needs a paint job, we are working on that, maybe they will let us paint the 19.

Diesel 19 is still heavy and the tracks were icey, 19 required the loader and backhoe to roll it into the spur track.

Both machines pulling and pushing 19 in to the spur track.

We are plowing just a bit of snow and are headed for the summit.

February 4th 2007, I am on a light Locomotive run up the west side of La Veta Pass.

We basically came up to ferry the Track Crews to their equipment,

Chuck and John were doing their best to open the pass for freight traffic.

Believe it or not, there are tracks under that snow!!

Good ole' 455 will get us down the hill... Keep your eyes open, I have alot more picture's of La Veta under snow for you!!

8527 leads the way and you can see the results... we stopped short of the summit.

Welcome back to the Colorado Railroad Museum.

I love the paint job on this locomotive, great lines!!

Such a beautiful locomotive, number 14!!!

Love that Royal Gorge Logo...

One of Coor's Brewing Company's locomotives.

Coors actually has its own railroad.

Locomotive 8527 takes a break, the track crews are running a bulldozer while we wait to try and clear the tracks of the snow!

This is the last collection of my Chama Steam Shots... hope you enjoyed this collection!!

Locomotive's 484 and 488 race the setting sun to Cumbres..

These aren't my best, but I wanted to share them with you!!

Leading, the 484 rolls into Cumbres...

Locomotive 484 will cut off and run light to Chama..

Locomotive 484 and 484 at Cumbres..

Two locomotives who earned their pay today!!

Good ole' 484 and Jeremy cross Colorado 17 at Cumbres.

Again, not my best photographs, but wanted to share them with you!

Locomotive 484...

Locomotive 488 brings the train across the crossing..

Locomotive will take the train down to Chama.

Part of the train crosses the road...

Love those stockcars..

Hey there's my Buddy on the platform, hope you see this shot..

And Conductor Ray Martinez brings up the rear of the train... see ya later..

Looking thru the cab windshield of 8527 as we make our way up the pass... I hope you like these shots and there will be some more coming SOON!

Quick note, we have the first car into the shop for a new paint job, I have been told we are to paint as many passenger cars as we can this winter, you should start seeing a few more passenger coaches in red and silver, I will keep you informed on our progress!!
