Rail Runner in Los Lunas,
New Mexico.... Engineer Clem Harris will run us back to Albuquerque,
New Mexico. |
February 13th 2007 and we are going to
install the rebuilt piston back into 487. You are looking into the
cylinder of 487. |
Here is one of the rebuilt pistons for 487, can
you see the clamps on the piston, those are keeping the rings
compressed to help us put the piston in! Sorry if the picture is a
little blurry!! |
You are looking at the left valve gear.. the
Piston has been installed and the piston rod still needs to be
connected to the crosshead. |
A look at the piston inside the cylinder. That
little piece of rectangular metal is to keep the piston from
accidentally popping out! |
A look at the Right Valve Gear, we are making new
Piston Rod wedges for the crossheads, that's what the blue paint is
for. |
The Chama based Handicap car is in track 2, it had
its roof cleaned and scrapped, the lettering removed and next it
will move to track 3 for maintenance, brake inspections and its new
paint job! Yes, the car will receive its red and silver paint job
next week! |
Another view of the shop, I am sorry its a
bit crowded, but we have our hands full!! |
We are putting the cylinder cover back on, Anthony
is applying anti-seize to the threads of 487's cylinder bolts. Now
about 20 minutes later Ronnie, Anthony and I were tightening the
bolts down and Yours Truly snapped one bolt right off... We had to
remove the cover, take the broken bolt off, replace it and start
over again!!! |
Can you see the new bolt on the lower right.... |
Now a quick photo for you before we put the cover
back on, its quite heavy and you can see how we lift it into place.. |
Valentines Day and the guys are working on
the motor cars.. |
Rudy and Orlando are working on the Diesel Motor
Car.. thanks to new sprockets, Rudy made it into a four wheel
drive!! Rudy said this motor car had a traction problem in rain and
snow, powering both axle's should help improve the traction. |
The motor car has been jacked up to perform the
work!! Can you see the new chain drive. |
Orlando is working on the brakes!! |
You can see how Rudy added Sprockets over the
wheels. |
Two motor cars in the shop!! |
Keep up the great work guys!! |
I am sorry, this isn't a great shot, its
hard to take picture's in our dark shop!! The Antonito based Parlor
Car has been freshly painted and is having hand-made cup holders
installed.. |
Now check this out, we will perform a annual test
on 487, this is what the test will consist of!!! |
Feb 15th 2007 and the guys are installing
the new coal bunker metal on 489's tender tank. |
This is the rear sheet, its huge and heavy!!! |
This would be interesting to
run... Engineer Harris did a great job, top knotch train handling!
Rolling down La Veta..... |
Looking out the window facing rear
as we roll down La Veta on light engines!! |
The
Forbes Road Crossing, with Mount Blanca in the background. |
Looking west on the SL&RG
Mainline. |
I am on the Company Truck as
Engineer Ken Reece brings the locomotives down the line! |
Two of SL&RG's locomotives. |
Just east of Fort Garland.... |
The locomotives power into view.. |
Ken will roll the power thru Fort
Garland and continue on to Alamosa.. |
I will make another run on
Rail Runner soon, have to go to Belen next time!! |
