Welcome to Antonito, Earl and I are doing some switching on the SL&RG Railroad... The SL&RG had 30 Centerbeam cars stored in Antonito on the Wye and extra tracks.. well Earl and I are moving them out of Town..

Here I am at the rear of our 30 car train preparing to head North out of Antonito, the Town of Antonito has received some funding to improve the area around the Original Antonito Depot.. will get more details later, so we are moving the cars out of town to make room!!

Welcome back to the Chama Shop!! These picture's were taken on February 24th 2007.

You are looking at a set of Crown brass driver bearing boxes!!!

Check out this box of staybolts... thought you would like this one!!

You are looking at a driver axle on the quartering machine, they appear to be working on the Eccentric crank. The Eccentric crank is the "teardrop" shaped thing on the axle, that drives the eccentric rod which in turn drives the motion of the expanding link!!

Here is a look at the driver axle and look closely, it has its tire's removed...

Now when I say tire, I am talking about a ring of metal that is the actual surface of the wheel that rides on the rail and has the flange.

Another look at the driver axle.

A look at the interior of the Chama Shop, there is 484 and behind it 488.

Here is a set of pistons, these are probably for 489.

Here is one of Diesel 19's tire's being worked on!!

You are looking at the Firemans side of 489's firebox..  You can see the newly installed Rigid Staybolts and Flexible staybolts...

You are looking thru the firebox door into the firebox!!

Here is a section of firebox being replaced!!

Another view of the firebox with its flue sheet removed.

A look at 484 in the Chama, 484 and 488 will have their annual test done and 484 is having its pistons looked at.

489's steam dome with its ultra-sound measurements.

On 489 looking across the shop to 484 and 488 behind it!

Locomotive 484 in the Chama Shop!

The Boiler of 489...

Wanted to give you a few shots to look at!

Looking forward along 489.

489's backhead and the new staybolts being installed.

Locomotive 488's tender outside the Chama Shop!

We are blocking to many crossings here in Antonito, so we will pull the train to the edge of town and do the brake test there and put FRED in place for the ride to Alamosa!!

We will move the cars to Monte Vista for storage.. will have more photos for you later!!

Thanks to David Dickey, we are back to Rocky Mountain Motors in Grand Junction, Colorado.

We are looking at a Armature from one of Diesel 19's Generators.

The Armature is being lowered into a coat of varnish, after it will be baked in a oven!

This tank is 6 feet deep, that's alot of varnish!!! Thanks again to Roving C&T Shops Website Photographer David Dickey!

Monday, the 5th of March and another car rolls out of the Antonito, ready for service and painted in the new scheme!!

Now the cars don't have their lettering yet, they are on order.

Passing the tank, we will hook it up with the finished cars on the main!

The new paint looks good, this car has the stained and varnished doors!!

The clouds rolled in and the cars are coupled together.

Work continues on another truck in the shop!

Both of Diesel 19's brand new wheels have arrived in Antonito.

They look pretty cool, Huh!!!

Rudy and Orlando and continuing their work on the Motorcars.

The tool flats are receiving some much needed maintenance...

All the finished Motorcars are parked outside the Shop!

The Car Repair shop has been so much help to us this year... Oh and to let you know, Rudy and Orlando and Max made a run up the railroad to check the track... they made it to milepost 293.50... there is a long cut at that location and it was full of snow!!

The New Wheels have been installed back into Diesel 19's traction motors...

A complete traction motor and new wheel..

The second axle of the set... next the guys will begin installing the traction motors and axle's into Diesel 19's trucks.

Sometimes the work require's TWO backhoe's...

Yet, another car rolls out of the shop, serviced and ready for service with new paint. This car has the painted doors.

They look sharp freshly painted..

The Antonito shop is ready for the weekend.

Work continues on 489's tender and the Chama based snack car is in the shop!!

See ya next week!!
