Ready to board near the Cruise
Ship Dock... |
_small.jpg) |
We have just rolled another car out of the
Antonito Shop.. |
_small.jpg) |
You are looking at ready for service, Chama based
parlor car "Joe Vigil". |
_small.jpg) |
The lettering came in, so this car is fully
lettered. |
_small.jpg) |
I think the car looks great... |
_small.jpg) |
A Antonito based passenger car is in the
shop for repairs... |
_small.jpg) |
In the picture's you can see how we are completely
replacing the roof, we removed the top layer of the roof wood and
canvas. |
_small.jpg) |
We have added tin flashing to the side of the
roof, now we are putting on the second layer of plywood! |
_small.jpg) |
A last minute repair has been decided upon
for 487... |
_small.jpg) |
We removed almost all the rods on the Fireman's
side to replace some bearings. |
_small.jpg) |
Here is Driver Number 4 without it's rod. |
_small.jpg) |
Here is Driver 3 without its rods, can you see the
difference in the crank pins? Number 4 carries only one rod, but the
longer crank pin on Number 3 allows for the placement of the
connecting rods, the Main rod and the Eccentric Crank. |
_small.jpg) |
Here is the Crosshead, you can see where the Wrist
pin is missing from the crosshead, Number 1-2 Connecting rod is down
and so is the Union Link still attached to the Combination Lever. |
_small.jpg) |
Here are two shots of 487 in the shop with its
rods removed... |
_small.jpg) |
We also have to pull the Air tanks off for some
reason, not sure why??? Will let you know later!! |
_small.jpg) |
Here is another step in replacement of a
roof, we first apply a tar like substance to the plywood.. |
_small.jpg) |
Next we cover that with a layer of Canvas.. over
which we put another layer of heavier tar like stuff to finish the
project. |
_small.jpg) |
The car in the shop is the "Antonito", it will
receive some more repair and cleaning and will receive the new paint
scheme next week. |
_small.jpg) |
A look into the shops, 489's tender is coming
along just fine!! |
_small.jpg) |
Well some more winter weather rolled over
the Cumbres & Toltec. The snow rolled in Thursday morning and
continued all day friday, we woke up saturday morning in Antonito
with 14 inches of fresh snow on the ground. |
_small.jpg) |
Take a look at the Fire Patrol motor cars.. Rudy
made Curtains for all of the motor cars.. |
_small.jpg) |
They sure help in the cold weather and wind. |
_small.jpg) |
Those curtains look great, they were made by Rudy
and Orlando and all the motor cars will be equipped with them! |
