Welcome to Alamosa and SL&RG's 1744!  1744 is next to the Alamosa fresh from a run over La Veta Pass.. Hey is that Earl??

And here is Brett Shawcroft... oh, heck with that.. It's Charlie in the cab of 1744.

A few more shots of 488 for my friends...

The 488 extra train at milepost 489.

I think these shots came out great..

Locomotive 488, two coaches and four flats..

This place is exactly 30 minute's from Antonito.

Cumbres & Toltec 488 at Milepost 289.

Lowdown, I love this angle.

In the weeds, a couple of days later and I saw the biggest rattlesnake right where I am standing.

On the mainline in Alamosa, 1744 with the La Veta Passenger train meets 8577 with the Antonito Passenger train. my buddy pal oh mine Dennis is in the 8577!

The guys are working on clearing the cuts along the railroad.

Phantom Curve looks great.. ready for ballast.

1744 pulls across State Street in Alamosa to do some switching.

Cumbres & Toltec locomotive 487 at Sublette, New Mexico..

Diesel 19 is working the line...

Diesel 19 delivered ties to a area west of Cumbres...

It is now heading for Antonito. The new motors are doing great.

Diesel 19 is holding the main track ahead of 484 and train 2...

See ya later, Diesel 19 is heading for Antonito.

Dennis and 8577 waits on the main for 1744 to clear...

Early morning and the 2nd Tamper is leaving town.

This Tamper is working out of Antonito and is slowly making progress up the railroad.

The guys are working everyday and the line is now tamped all the way to 289.50.

We cruise in smooth comfort from Antonito all the way to Milepost 290..

There they go, at 9:30 they will call and once again let us know they are safe and out of the way in Lava, New Mexico..

These guys have been doing great..

Away they go...

The Track out of Antonito looks great.

Now where else can you see this, 1744 pulls into the clear as 8577 waits on the main.

Early morning and before I head out on the passenger train, I am going to run out to Milepost 287 with Marvin and dump three loads of Ballast.

Diesel 19 runs beautifully, its loud though...

Crossing Ferguson Trestle.. in the past the only time you would have to wear earplugs was on downhill runs when you were using the Automatic air, but now the 19 is really loud and I had to wear earplugs..

We rolled out of town with three loads of ballast and easily maintained the speed limit.. 19 is a tough puller now!!!!

Dumping ballast...

Can you see the tie under the wheels as the rock dumps out of the car.

Approaching milepost 288, we had a gap here that was missing rock.

Soon we will be done and I will head back and run the passenger train..

1744 is about to pass 8577.... Alamosa Railroading!!!

Rolling to Alamosa on a Motorcar...

I love this shot, it looks like we are doing warp speed.

What a cool shot.

Here is my buddy Butch... against a setting sun!!

Arrival in the Alamosa yard.

We are holding on the main line to Antonito while the night crew and their diesels clear the main.

The Walsenburg turn crew is getting their warrant and they will head for the east yard to pick up their train.

Setting sun, the American flag water tank and the motorcars.

Motorcars in Alamosa...

I love that tank, you can see it for miles.

Ready to pull on to the main..

Soon we will roll thru the yard and put these motorcars to bed.

The motorcars roll into a side track.. this will keep the main clear for the Walsenburg turn to return thru the main tonight at about 2 am if they are lucky.

A cool scene I captured in Alamosa, by accident....

I was having dinner at May Wah restaurant in Alamosa, heard the whistle and headed to the yard.

1744 and 8577 in Alamosa...

One train passes another in Alamosa...

Good Ole' 8577 looking good.. See ya next week!
