1744 was really moving, the shot
might a bit fuzzy!! |

Its pretty cool to see two railroads work so
effectively to provide a unique railfan experience.. |

Over Robert's shoulder as we
climbed to Fir on 1744. |
|
We have just reached the Summit...
I am looking over Charlie's shoulder as 1744 rolls along. |

We have stopped at Fir on the
Summit and Earl has walked back to set up the retainers. |

A little bit of oil and 1744 is a
happy locomotive.. have to keep that running gear lubed up! |

|
Welcome to Osier, we have switched over a
tank car and three flat cars over to the Chama Bound train... they
are bound for Cumbres, where they will be set out in a siding! |
|
We picked up the cars in Sublette, New Mexico.... |
|
Now why are we moving MOW freight in the passenger
train, well the Diesel is having a few problems... it derailed a few
times and rolled home to Antonito after setting out the cars in
Sublette for inspection and repairs!! |
|
The Chama based train hauled the cars to Cumbres
and they are there waiting for the next work train. |
|
Another look at Osier, Colorado... |
|
I thought you would like a few shots of 484 with
Rain clouds... |
|
Those rain clouds in the background were lined up
to catch us on the run back to Antonito and they did!! |
|
Fire patrol departs Osier behind the train with
the MOW cars... |

The rain caught us at Sublette... |
|
I am glad to say, the rainy season has kicked in
and we are getting rain... |

|
Well its Wednesday the 18th of July and we
know what Diesel 19's problem was!!!!! |
|
Diesel 19 is in the Antonito shop and has had its
front truck removed... |
|
The front truck removed and with one of its axle's
out. |
|
The second axle will also be removed!!! |
|
Now what happened, well look closely at the axle
in the picture!! |
|
Diesel 19's derailment was caused by a Tire on the
Axle of Diesel 19 coming loose and moving outward throwing the axle
out of gauge!!! See the lip, that's
not supposed to be there, the Tire of the Axle has moved outward by
almost a inch!!! |
|
The Tire of the Axle may have been cut and
machined a bit to much while in the Chama machine shop over the
winter resulting in a loose tire, the Axle's have been moved back to
Chama for repairs if possible..
Diesel 19 handle's its work trains by using Independent brake's
quite frequently, its extra braking could result in a higher tire
temperature resulting in expansion and eventual tire loosening on
the axle.. either way, the tire did come loose and now this problem
will have to be repaired before 19 can return to MOW service.. Bad
news get worse!!! Other axle's on 19 are showing the same problem!!!
Think positive thoughts for 19, it needs it!!! |
