Here is 488's Smokebox, look close you can see the chama shop has
actually replaced the front sheet. Look down below and you can
see how they have used bolts to hold the sheet in place while they
install the rivets. They had to replace the rear sheet and to get
the rear sheet in they had to remove and then replace the front
sheet. |

I was driving back and forth between chama on thursday, stopped for
about 10 seconds and took a shot of Cumbres for you... April 22,
2004. |
|
Look close at the pressure, 487 is doing great... we tried a
Hydro-test on the 22nd, we did have a few weeping staybolts and
staybolt caps and the throttle needed some work, but I am proud of
the guys in Antonito and 487.. Locomotive 487 held a Pressure
of 245 pounds of Pressure for 30 minutes Straight. But she didn't
pass the test, so we rolled up our sleeves and went back to work.. I
tell you what, when 487 is Steamed up, she is gonna Steam like a
Brand New Locomotive!! |
|
487's Boiler holding the Pressure in!!!!!!!!! |
|
After the Test we went back to work, here is the Throttle valve on
487 removed, you can see right into the valve!!! We lapped the
valve, that should seal it right up!! |
|
Another view of 487's Throttle Valve. In the Background Marvin is
cleaning and applying Lapping Compound to the valve! |
|
Here is both Marvin One and Marvin Two, they are using two Torch's
to anneal the Copper Ring that makes the seal on the Steam Dome!
This process makes the copper softer to help it seal better. |
