February 16th 2004...in this picture, Julio is in the Boiler welding
the Crownsheet Patch.. |
|
February 17th 2004, Marvin Jr. running the Magnetic Drill, he is
drilling the pilot holes for the Staybolt holes. |
|
Julio had to weld thru a roll of Staybolts.. and could only use
about a half of a rod, cause that was the only way he could reach.. |
|
In this Picture you can see the arc of weld penetrating from the top
of the Crownsheet to the bottom, just shows how well the penetration
in the weld was!!! |
|
In this Picture you can see one of the Taps we used to make new
threads for the Staybolts... you can see the Measurements of the
Staybolts, these were 15/16 inch staybolt threads... February 17th
2004. |
|
This is one of the Taps, you can see it is consist of three pieces..
the first piece is machined and guides the Tap, the second is the
actual Tap and the third is the machined piece to allow us to drive
the Tap. |
|
This a close up shot of the Drill and its Pilot Bit... what helps is
the Drill has a magnetic base and when activated, it actually holds
itself to the metal during drilling. February 17th 2004. |

Superintendent Marvin C. working a Tap threading staybolt holes.. |
|
These are some of the staybolts in place.. they are now ready for
trimming and hammering. February 17th 2004. |
|
The Magnetic Drill holding itself in place, ain't that cool.. |
|
February 18th 2004. Here is some more of Julio's welding... Thats
Art Buddy!!!! The Arch Brick in the firebox actually rides against
the Firebox and had worn a little..so Julio did a little fill in
welding on the wear spot. |
|
In this Picture you can see the Big Patch in the firebox, it has
been welded in and has been ground down to check for any problems..
the welds were perfect and now you can see the new Staybolts holes
coming into place. After all that work, the firebox sheets are solid
again!!! February 18th 2004. |
|
In this Picture you can see the First Pilot holes drilled for the
Staybolts... the blue paint is a Scribe Paint that allowed us to
measure and mark the exact hole locations! |
|
Now here some more of Julio's Fill Welding, I just had to show you
Guys this Welding, look at it.. it amazed me, that's Art if I have
ever seen it.. |
|
Here is the Second small patch in the Firebox, it has been fully
welded in place and ready for the Staybolt holes.. February 18th
2004. |
|
More of the Awesome welding... |
|
And some more... |
|
This is the Firemans side of the Firebox, on the outside, and almost
all the Staybolts are in place and ready for Trimming and Hammering.
February 18th 2004. |
|
I thought this Picture was Pretty cool, Julio is Overhead Welding in
the Firebox. |
|
Here is the Big Sheet... with most of the Staybolts drilled into
place. |
|
A few staybolts in place around the Blowdown Hole... February 18th
2004. That where the Blowdown valve sits.. in that Big Hole. |
|
This is the New small sheet with its staybolts holes drilled in and
in place!!! |
|
A close up of the Big Sheet and its staybolt holes... and one
staybolt in place.. February 18th 2004. |
|
Okay I admit it, this is a Tap I broke... right in half! I did
it..all by myself. |
