Okay, here is a little tease, The Real 488 isn't ready yet, but here
is something to hold you till it is. Here is a Model of 488, it is 1
of 200 made, it was made by Berlyn Locomotive Works of Denver, It
has been Detailed and Airbrush Weathered by Dean Lowe the Owner and
the Tender has real Coal from Chama, New Mexico. "I think I
made a BooBoo on this picture, you may have to shrink it down to see
it, sorry." |

The Locomotive also has Digital Sound made from a Recording of 487
done in Chama 4 years ago, It weighs in at 40 pounds and is capable
of pulling 20 cars up a 3.7 Grade in the Owners Backyard.. I think
it looks Great!!!! Thanks Dean for the Picture's. |

For the First time this Year Train 215 out of Antonito had 11 Cars
requiring a stop at Los Pinos, the Maximum amount of Passenger Cars
that can fit in Cumbres without blocking the Highway Crossing is 10.
So to be safe we water at Los Pinos on the Westbound Trip. |

on the Rope and so, Locomotive 484 gets a drink of water from Los

Locomotive 487 at Cumbres, a Little Rain must fall and fall it did
that day, we had hail at Cresco on the way down Cumbres Pass. |

After Un-coupling the Helper Locomotive 487, we crossed Lobato
Trestle and waited on the other side for 484 and Train 216. |

Another C&T Double-header has made the Summit at Cumbres, locomotive
487 is on the Wye and already turned waiting to return to Chama
after 484 and Train 216 leave Cumbres for Osier. |

Helper 487 is on it's way back to Chama, Marvin is at the Controls
and has the Johnson Bar in full reverse to provide Braking power for
487's decent down Cumbres Pass. |

Donald "Ducky" Martinez is Rolling the small tubes on 488's Front
Flue Sheet. |

With a Can of Crisco and a Air Rachet, Ducky will soon have all the
Flues Rolled. |

Orlando and Ricky are cutting the Big Flues and have been installing
them. Tommy is helping, but is out of the Picture. |

You can see the New Staybolts that have been installed and Hammered
into place. they look Great. |

You are looking at 488's Firebox, you can see the new Staybolt Caps
and the New Installed Rigid Staybolts. |

Here is 488's Firebox, the Arch Tubes have been installed as have
the Small tubes and a few big tubes.. and the New Flue Sheets have
been fully welded into place. |

The Arch Tube Plugs on the Outside of the boiler, located in the cab
were strengthened and you can see the work here, basically a ring or
sleeve was welded into place to make the plug hole smaller and
stronger. |

You are looking at 488's Pilot Truck, upside down, the guys are
doing repair work and were drilling holes onto this piece to attach
the Tongue. |

In this Picture, you are looking at 488's old Steam Dome Cap and its
New One. They have been Tack Welded together to allow the new holes
to be drilled using the old Cap as a guide. |

Here is Rob working on the Crosshead Guides, he is making Dovetail
Groves in the Brass to allow the Babbitt to stick well to the
Surface. Babbitt is a lighter metal used along with the Brass to
make a wear area or Bearing.. |

Ed here lets a smile go and shows a piece of metal he is machining
that will become part of the back spring rigging on 488. |

You are looking at some Crown Brass Boxes and a few items that will
become 488's Spring Rigging. |
|
Here is one 488's Crossheads, the Hole will allow it to be attached
to the Main Rod and the Brass will become the area that slides back
and forth thru the Crosshead Guides. |

Well I want to introduce you to Paul Uhland, he and Lawrence Harman
"Not Pictured" are working on and re wiring Motor-Car 013. |

Soon Motor-car 013 will be back to work in Great Shape, Thanks to
