Its Monday the 7th of June.. My Birthday, Steve Montano Has the Throttle as we climb out of Los Pinos Curve.

Passing the Tank and uphill we continue... 484 climbs, I shovel the coal and Cherry Smoke drifts thru the Air...

Steve Has the Throttle...

Steve is the Shop Foreman and worked hard to get 484 under Steam, its only right for him to run this Finely rebuilt Locomotive...  A Good Guy and the Locomotive he Rebuilt!!!!!

Locomotive 484 likes a solid Bank of coal against its firedoor...  I have a good Heel in her and me and Steve climb the East side of Cumbres..

A view of the last Quarter Mile or so of Track before the Summit of Cumbres..

You can easily see how fast Rust forms on the unused Guard Rail between the Main Rails... we will do the Impossible and work Hard to keep Cumbres & Toltec Steam Running over the Line to prevent Rust from ever forming on these Hollowed Rails.

The Trestle at Cumbres..

A little detail on the Wooden Structure...

The Water Marker at Cumbres.. in itself a Beautiful Structure of Railroad Necessity

The Manhole cover that leads into the Cistern at Cumbres...

Nature and Railroading Structures blend together quite well don't they..

Mom and Dad, Mom sits on the porch of the Cumbres Depot.. It was like Home to her and she recalls all the Great Times she had there....

Wednesday the 9th of June, Train 215 gets a call.. MOW Backhoe has Stalled in a tight cut.. West of Phantom Curve... Joseph walks back and flags the Train and Guides me to a safe stop.

Quickly, A Group of about 10 guys forms a plan.... 2 Chains are hooked to the backhoe and to Locomotive 487... I will pull the Backhoe Backwards while the Track Crew rolls the Motor Cars back sandwiched between the Backhoe and Locomotive 487..

Problem solved, the Backhoe is moved out of the way, the Motorcar will travel ahead of Train 215 to Osier to clear.. and Train 215 is back on its way.. Guys working together, solving problems and thats how you run a Railroad..

Switching done, My report has been made and I part from 487 for the Evening.. She will be under Great Care as Jose takes the Controls and prepares her for the night.

487 rolls to the Ash pit..

Jose has the Controls and 487 is under Good Care.. Goodnight...

Work continues on 488... here are a few Bushings...

Here are a few Brass Bearings and the Babbit has been freshly repoured..

Working on a Crown Brass. This sits on the Journal of the Drive Wheel and supports the Weight of the Locomotive!

Here are 488's Crossheads..

Here are 2 Expansions Links, a Eccentric Rod, some Combination levers and a union link.

Looking over the Coal, 484 waits for the Train from Antonito.

Another one of those unique views... looking to the couplers from the top of 484's Tender..

484 and Train 2 at Osier...

A close look at 484's Nose...

A little more Detail...

And why do we shovel tons and tons of coal and roast in raging hot cabs.. its because once in a while you meet Passengers who are so nice and a Joy to talk to. We enjoy what we do here, I love to ride these Locomotives and I want everybody to enjoy the Cumbres and Toltec as much as I do.. We were Honored to Count these very Nice People as our Passengers and truly hope they had as Good as a time as their smiles show.

Carl Gentzel and Christine Preston stand in the front of Locomotive 484 at Osier.. We Thank you on behalf of all the employee's on the C&TS Railroad... We were thrilled to have you ride with us, we enjoyed your Visit and Hope we someday will see you here again, Best Wishes.. and Thank You..

Yes, thats me with a Teddy Bear... Listen to this!!! A Gentleman, by the name of Terry Gill is traveling the Country with this Bear.. He has been everywhere and I was lucky enough to meet Him and take a Picture with this Very Nice Bear.. I wish him the Best on his Trip...

Now Normally, I work as a Fireman out of Chama on Weekends... The Steam Locomotive may run on Coal, but Trust me... I am running on Extra Large Frappuchino's ... is that how you spell that??? Anyway, The Coffee Shop on Main above the Chama Yard has the Best I have ever Had.. Whoo Hoo!!

I want to thank these young Ladies, they make them just right and what a bunch of Heartwarming Smile's, does me a whole lot of Good..

Starting at the Left.. thats "Joanne Lyman", next is "Alicia Morales" and that Beautiful Smile at the end is "Bianca Zamora"..

Thanks Ladies..

Leaning out of the Cab as 487 starts across Cascade Trestle.

Kinda creepy as you cross these Trestles, there is absolutely no room for anything other than the Train!!

Bobby Deyapp rides the Fire Patrol Motor Car.. He's the One Man Fire Fighting Machine!!!

Bobby has a Back-up Fireman with him.. thats Donald "Ducky" Martinez riding Shotgun with Bobby..

The Fire Patrol takes a advantage of a few minutes before Train 1 arrives from Antonito and turns on the Osier Loop, Ducky Throws the Switch.

Two Experienced Railroaders on the Job...

One more Switch to throw and The Fire Patrol will run down the main to clear Train 1.

Bobby listens in to the Radio Chatter, Train 1 is Five Minutes out of Osier.

I am back on 487 as Train 1 with 484 rolls into Osier, Colorado.

Monday Morning, the 14th of June.. 487 is ready to roll to Osier and beyond to Chama with Train 215..

Once again thank you Ladies... I'll see you again soon... thank you for the Best Coffee in the World..

Well thats it for this week... I'll see you all in a week or so... Thank you for visiting the Site... Bye,

Carlos
