In a Picture Perfect Moment, Chandra Regan sits in the wild grass at
Osier and sketches Locomotive 487... And that is why I took a
Picture!!!!! Well Chandra and Her Husband were riding the Train to
celebrate their 1st Year Wedding Anniversary... Congratulations and
thank you so much for choosing to spend this special day with us...
We all wish you the very Best for all the years to come.. and
come back and spend every Anniversary with us... Thanks from the
Cumbres & Toltec...Best Wishes. |
|
Train 216 is making the last ascent on Cumbres, Locomotive 484
brings the Train around the last curve to Windy Point..... |
|
Locomotive 484's Nose comes into View.. |
|
Locomotive passes the new Retainer Walls and.... Engineer Jeff
Stebbins is at the Throttle. |
|
Jeff is back on the Job and He and Marvin bring 484 and Train 216 up
Cumbres.. |
|
New Antonito Ticket Agent Lisa Martinez rides the Open Car... |
|
Bobby Deyapp and Alan bring up the rear watching for Fire's! |
|
Jeff Checks the temperature of the Driver Boxes and Rods on 484 at
Cumbres.. |
|
11 Days out of the Cancer Treatment Center.. Jeff is back on the
Job, Way to go.. Wish you the Best. |
|
With a Smile, Jeff and Marvin are on their way to Osier.. |
|
Locomotive 484 departs Cumbres for Osier.. |
|
Locomotive 484 drifts downgrade past the "Hat Tree" The Hat Tree is
a set of Pine Trees... Missing Hats miraculously appear on the Trees
every so often.. |

Locomotive 484 drifts downgrade.. |
|
Coming across the Dirt Fill at Milepost 329.. Headed Eastbound. |
|
Train 216 leaves me behind and is on its way to Osier, Colorado. |
|
Fire Patrol, ever Vigilant is on the Lookout for Sparks. |
|
The Backend of Fire Patrol... it consists of a Water Tank mounted on
a Flat MOW Car with a Gas Powered Pump and Nozzle. |
|
Near Los Pinos Tank is one of the Original Culverts placed by the
Railroad.. it would be amazing if this was put in during
Construction, but more than likely it is a little newer than that...
it must be about 20 feet under the Railroad Tracks.. |
|
Train 216 drifts past Los Pinos Water Tank. |
|
Locomotive 484 and Train 216 running thru the Green Los Pinos
Valley. |
|
Locomotive 484 Lifts Train 216 pasts Garcia Cabin, past Milepost 333
and into View of Windy Point where I stand.. |
|
Over unfamiliar Rails the Antonito Coaches ride uphill behind 484,
these Coaches have been getting regular Mileage over the entire
Railroad during the One way Trips... Trust me they handle like
"Dreams come True" down the steep Grade into Chama.. The
Triple Valves on the Brakes work like a Charm.. Better than the
newer AB Valves. |
|
Locomotive 484 passes the reflecting Pool... Soni tells me this is
one of his favorite locations and loves the reflection of the
passing train. |
|
Locomotive 484 crosses the Last Highway 17 Crossing before Cumbres
Pass Summit.. |
|
Locomotive 484 prepares to ease off a little as she comes off the 4
percent grade and enters Coxo curve.. |
|
Locomotive 484 and Train 215 come into Toltec Siding and make a
Pass. A Work Train is in the siding.. |
|
Mike sits on the flatcar as we pass the work Train for the Friends..
after clearing the right-of-way of Overgrown tree's.. they had to go
back in and pick up the Debris.. |
|
You can see the amount of trees that had to be cut in just a few
miles to hold back the Tree's and keep the right-of-way Clear! |
|
The Bumblebee Motorcar also sits in the siding ahead of Diesel 19
and the Work Train. |
|
Once again we are honored to have some very Nice Guests with us on
the Train.. Here is Melissa Johnson and Paul Giefer, they are from
Minnesota and we were Very Glad to chat with them for a Brief while
in the Cab of the Locomotive.. thank you so much Melissa and Paul
for riding with us.. we hope you come and visit again!! |
|
Locomotive 484 hugs the Rails as she crosses Los Pinos Trestle.. |
|
Looking back from the Cab as 484 crosses the Los Pinos Trestle.. |
|
Here's all the wood the Tree-Project took out to clear the
right-of-way in the Canyon. |
|
Thats quite a bit of Tree's to cut out... its nice to be able to
stick your Head out of the Cab now and not worry about getting hit
by a Pine Tree. |
|
Well this Weekend in Antonito, we had the Antonito Steam Fest, right
in the Railroad Parking lot. It was a 2 day Festival of Fun, Food,
Dancing and Performers. Sunday was a site to see, A Passenger got
off the Train at the last second and made a trip to the Navajo Taco
Stand.. I blew the All Aboard Single and here He's comes, running
like the Wind thru the Booths in the Parking and up to the Train
with His Navajo Taco..... Locomotive 463 came out of Hiding in the
Shop and got a little sun.. |
|
Another view of the Tree's cut back to clear the right-of-way. |
|
A D&RGW Flat Car carrying some freshly cut Aspen.. |
|
Locomotive 484, Sunday Morning the 20th of June.. she is steamed up,
oiled up and ready to roll. |
|
The Antonito Steam Fest was a Blast and everybody had a Great Time..
One of the Highlights of the Fest was the performance by "Ernestine
"La Jovencita" Romero.. She is a Highly Talented and very Popular
Singer from New Mexico.. It was My Pleasure and I was Honored to
have her tour Steam Locomotive 484 with me.. she visited the Cab and
took the time to take a few Picture's.. It is not often I can give a
Talented and Famous Singer a Tour of the Locomotives I run for this
Railroad.. I will put a few more Picture's of Ernestine's Visit to
484's Cab in next weeks Update..
Well that is all folks for this
week, already working on next week... I hope my Summer Updates are
as interesting as the Winter Ones.. Thank you for visiting and don't
forget I am still collecting Postcards, so send them in... Carlos
