Locomotive 484 at Antonito, this is Great shot.. It's one I would
probably never take.. I am usually more concerned in doing my Report
and getting 484 into the shop and ready for the nightwatchman.

Now once again I must mention, the Town of Antonito had their Annual
Steam Festival right in the Parking Lot in Antonito.. There was food
and fun and even a Carnival.. see what you missed, you should come
next Year..
Anyway one of the Highlights of the Both Days was a performance
by "Ernestine Romero" She is a Talented Singer from Pajaoque, New
Mexico. She has won singing competitions and has performed all over
the Southwest.. She Has released a CD and we were Honored to have
her Visit us here on the Cumbres and Toltec..
|
|
I was very Honored to have Ernestine Romero take some time away from
her very busy schedule to Visit Locomotive 484 Sunday Morning. She
Has a charming Personality and is Breathtaking in Person.. and to
hear her sing is Awesome.. |
|
On Saturday Evening some of the Crew stayed after work to hear her
performance.. Everybody was impressed with her Singing.. |
|
Ernestine takes a few minutes to Visit 484's Cab...
She's sitting in my seat..WOW!!!! |
|
Ernestine next to Cumbres & Toltec Locomotive 484... |
|
Locomotive 484 was built in 1925 and goes very well with Ernestine. |
|
Behind Ernestine is the "Flying Cumbres & Toltec Logo"
|
|
Here is Ernestine next to 484's Cab. |
|
Ernestine stands in front of 484. |
|
Locomotive 484 has been fully rebuilt and is in full service on the
C&T. |
|
Ernestine stands next to the Engineers side of Locomotive 484. |
|
Ernestine leans against 484's Engineer Seat in the Cab. |
|
Ernestine is probably the most-Beautiful person to ever be in this
Cab. |
|
It is not often I am able to give a Talented Musical Star like
Ernestine a tour of 484.. And I would like to personally Thank her
for taking the time to visit with me... |
|
Using my Gloves, Ernestine Grabs the handlle of the Number 6
Brakestand in the Cab... Thanks Ernestine for taking the Time to
visit with us and thanks for Helping the Antonito Steam Fest be such
a success this year.. I was truly Honored to meet this Dynamic Young
Lady... I can't believe she wore My GLOVES... I am gonna frame
them!!!!
And don't listen to anybody who says I lost my Railroad
Concentration when I met Ernestine.. I was under complete control
and ran the Train safely.. I couldn't remember any of my fellow crew
members name till about 3 that afternoon, But I was on the Job... |
|
The Antonito Fire Patrol is rolling.. |
|
Here's the Guy behind the Antonito Fire Patrol.. Melvin Vigil. |
|
Melvin fuels up the Antonito Fire Patrol and soon will be on Train
215's tail all the way to Chama.. watching for sparks and spot
fire's. |
|
Here's me again and that Talented Singer.. Ernestine Romero. |
|
You wanna know what it's like to scoop coal up with Backhoe to fuel
up a Locomotive, well now you know!!! Looking out the Front on the
Antonito Backhoe which is provided by Mr Antonio Velasquez. |
|
Backing down from the Ramp after dumping a load of coal into 487. |
|
Well there's some heavy activity in Antonito as the "Friends" and a
local cement company called Southwest were busy pouring a second
slab of cement for coal storage in Antonito.. |
|
The first cement is poured into the form.. and the skies over
Antonito are cloudy and threatening rain. |
|
Southwest and the "Friends" are going hard to put the cement in and
smooth it out.. |
|
Later that same Day the skies over Antonito opened up and it rained
very Hard.. at my house in town it hailed, then rain for about a
Hour straight.. it was wet after that..Yeah!! |
|
Another shot of the wood cleared off the Right-of-way by the
Friends.. |
|
Locomotive 484 rests as she is serviced in Antonito.. a little steam
rises out of the Shop.. |
|
A few more things to do, Marvin Valdez is paddle greasing 484,
then he will back her over the ash pit, shake the grates a little,
throw a chain under one of the driver wheels, shut down the Air
Pump, drain the Hydro-static Lubricator and settle in for the
night.. |
|
A beautiful night settle's on the Antonito Train Yard. you can see a
few puddle's of water left over from the Rain. |
|
A bank of clouds rolls over the hills North of Taos, as the rain
clouds roll in over Antonito. |
|
It's Monday and Train 215 and 484 rolls West for Chama.. we are
running slowly thru the low lands past osier.. Steve Montano has the
Throttle and I am firing and enjoying the view. |
|
The Valley along the Tracks is Beautiful now, just the perfect mix
of yellows and greens.. we are rolling past a Location on the
Railroad named Charlie's Cabin, in the background is a Cabin owned
by the Shawcroft Family and the son Charlie as we called him as a
nick name, his real name is Brett used to work for the Railroad, so
this small section of Track was named Charlie's Cabin! |
|
Looking out the front of 484's Cab, the Summit of Cumbres is still
about 300 feet higher up and 8 miles farther on to the left. |
|
To the left there is the famous Hat Tree's, we are coming up on
Tanglefoot curve and soon we will be at Cumbres Summit. |
|
Wednesday, cruising downgrade thru Cresco we met Diesel 19 and
another Debris clean up train.. they were picking up the Tree's and
brush cut by the Friends to clear the Right-of-way. |
|
Passing Diesel 19.. |
|
This is Loren Suazo and Bob Goldhirsch, these are the Gentleman that
gave us, the Train Crew and Fire Patrol our Wildland Fire Prevention
refresher courses. |
|
Conductors Ray Martinez and Sam Ruybal taking a break from the
Classes. |
|
Fireman Soni Honneggar and Ronnie Lopez taking a break.. it's kinda
funny.. as Railroad Fireman their Job is build Fires and super Hot
ones at that... now they have to take courses on how to turn them
off.. |
|
The Crew looks on as a Fire Truck is explained to us.. |
|
Everybody has their Ears on... there's Mark and Ed and Alan and
Marvin and Soni and Steve and Melvin and "The Boss" and Julio. |
|
This is a little different from a Steam Locomotive, but it's
Impressive.. everything the 3-man crew needs is on-board this Fire
Truck.. |
|
Two of the Firefighters, right after class they went back on Patrol. |
|
These Guys are local and are on the job, patrolling to keep a eye
out for any wildfires, however they may start. |
|
Two Crewmembers practicing how to use Fire Shelters for worst case
scenarios. Kinda look like 2 Giant Microwave Burritos. |
|
The Crew Having a Great Time.. |
