In this picture you can see the Staybolts being installed on the right of the Locomotive...

Left side of Locomotive, March 2nd 2004... we are installing staybolts in this Picture... these are the new bolts that are replacing the one's that were removed when we replaced that section of Firebox!

These are the new Staybolts being installed, this is the big new patch on the interior of the Firebox.

Marvin cutting Staybolts with the Torch, once the Staybolts are screwed into place and fitted, the excess is cut off! March 2nd 2004.

52 flues in and a few have been rolled on this side,

March 2nd 2004, this is the smokebox end of the Boiler and you can see the flues in place.

This is a picture of 487's right side, most of the staybolts are in place and the inside side of the staybolt has been smashed to seal the staybolt..

March 4th 2004, A picture of the Firebox, you can see the flues going in and the right side patch with the new staybolts.

in this picture you can see the staybolts, one is still being screwed into place, one is still missing, 6 have been fitted and are ready for smashing and the others have already been smashed down to seal them.

Here is the New right side Patch with New Staybolts in place... you can see how we have already smashed the heads down to seal the bolt in place. March 4th 2004.

In this Picture. you can see the Horseshoe nails the are used the secure or hold the flue in place while the first side is rolled. March 5th 2004.

Here is a close-up of 488's Tender, it has been freshly painted with Black, Teresa "the only Woman employee in the C&T Shops" trimmed the Tender with the Silver Paint..

Another Picture of Tender 488 and its freshly painted appliances! Teresa even went as far as to needle-scale the Frogs and Rails ramps and paint them silver.

Here is a interesting Picture, you are looking thru the still open flue openings and are looking into the Boiler. You can see the Flues as they are going in. March 5th 2004.

Another picture of 487's Boiler, little by little the boiler is being filled with Flues.... Friday 5th 2004.

Here's a photo from Chama, it looks like Steve & Ricky are working on 484's rods, between them you can see the Main rod and the Eccentric Crank still needs to be installed!

Well thats the end for this week... 497 and 463 at Cumbres... from the C.J. Llamas Collection.. Thank you once again for everybody's kind words and e-mails.. the work is hard and the hours long, but we continue to work our hardest, the sore muscles and doubts will never keep us from our duties.. we will rebuild these Locomotives and they will climb Cumbres once again.. Steam will never die here, We are Proud of our Railroad Heritage and our Country... and we will do our Best and Better to Preserve its History for the Future... Thanks ... Carlos Llamas.
