Marvin sits in the Smokebox to began installation on the Superheater Units..

We used a Air Rachet to tighten the nuts on the bolts, then we used 2 guys a large "Cheater Pipe" and a socket and "breaker Bar" to torque down the nuts to create the seal on the Steam Ports.

Ronnie and Marvin V. use 2 torches to heat the Copper ring for the Steam dome cap. This is the annealing process in action!

The installation is coming along great, the Super-heaters are going in just fine and we only broke one bolt, or to be honest i only broke one bolt. It is so nice to see these old machines with such brand new parts in them..

Another view of the Super-heaters..

The 487 is moved outside to install the Firebox Grate supports.. The Center Support is so heavy we used the backhoe to lift it into the firebox..

Sam is on the left and right above his head to the right is the center support..

The Super-heaters are fully installed..

You can see how each set of Super-heaters has to get longer and longer to get back to the Super-heater Unit as they step down in layers of flues!! You can see how close the fit is in the Flues..

This we also installed the Boiler insulation... we first tied wires around the boiler, then used rubber straps to help us hold the insulation in place.. then we tied and tied some more wire to the original layer of wire to hold the insulation in place. The insulation comes in sections of 4 in boxes..

You can see how the layers go on.. you can also see how we have to fit it around the Brackets and such..

Here you can see us working up along the boiler filling in the sections, took us about 10 hours.. you can also see the rubber straps that help us hold the insulation in place..

There are sections along the boiler where we use a mix of insulation, it comes in a bag and we mix it with water and put it on like cement.. it helps to feel the cracks..

Here is some more shots of how we put the insulation on!!

It can be a like a Big Puzzle..

Here is the other cement like insulation, you can see how it was applied to fill in the Gaps!

Another view of the Boiler.

Here is 487's tender getting its Silver Trim applied..

We also installed the Grate supports this week, you are looking forward on the right side.. you can see the center support and the right support.

You can see the pin holes on the support.. That is where the grates rest and where they pivot!!!

Here is a close-up of the Supports..

Here is the Center support... it is heavy, this is the one that required us to use the Back-hoe to lift into the firebox!!

Another look at the supports.

Here is some shots from the Llamas Archives.. I am Diesel 19 waiting on the main line for 497 to switch over to the mainline and into Train 4... then I will take the Siding..

Locomotive 497 Alias "Frankenstein" and Diesel 19 at Osier Colorado.

Two very different Narrow Gauge Locomotives sharing the Rails.. 497 and 19.

I must admit, I Stopped Diesel 19 right there exactly just to get a Great Shot!!

One of those Great Picture's I cherish very much in my Collection!

The Flying Cumbres and Toltec Logo and the Flying Rio Grande Logo..

Diesel 19 sits on the Wall at the west Portal of Rock Tunnel...

I climbed out on the rock ledge to get this Shot.. you can see the Beautiful Rock work in the wall.. it is a beautiful Structure, Yet nobody, not even passengers on the Train can see it.. to see the full view of the wall, you have to climb out where I did to see it.. I hope you "web-site viewers" out there who have never had the opportunity to climb out on the rocks will enjoy this picture.

Mike peeks over the edge as Diesel 19 takes a breather between hauling ballast.

Mike looks way over the edge... there is actually a set of Passenger car Trucks below this point..

Mike and Gerald peek over the edge next to Diesel 19. Up to this day I can't figure out what those two bright spots in the tunnel are..

The West Tower and the Center Tower of a Beautiful new Chapel rise above the Oldest Town in Colorado..

Well that is the end of this weeks update, the Colorado & Southern Locomotive #9 has yet to arrive, it should be in this week.. i'll be sure to get the shots..

We will continue to get 487 ready and some of the guys from Chama will come over to help us finish her off.

I am also starting a project and would like everybody's help... I would like to build a scrap book of such, of all of you out there who visit the site.. So... here's my Idea!!!!!

I would like all of you out there, to send me a post card of the town you live in! I will collect them and put them in a Photo Album, "maybe I could get them  displayed in the Depots" so go out and get a post card showing your town and send it to me..

Carlos J. Llamas, P.O. Box 323, Antonito, Colorado, 81120.

Thank you so much, I really want to know all of you that visit my site..
