The A-side trucks were put back
under the car and the B-side trucks have been removed for repair and
inspection, we will rebuild the Journal Boxes and the Brake rigging,
the wheels in this truck will be sent to chama to be trued and
turned in the shop. We also have replaced 2 old and worn Brake Heads
with Brand new ones and are now working on some wear and lateral
motion in the truck. Chama Shop, No Report:
Thursday. Dec 2nd 2004 Antonito Shop:
Well Preparations for the Christmas Train began today, we did a few
minor checks on 484 and began to fill the Boiler and tender with
water.. A steam line to the Mechanical lubricator that was not added
during the rebuild was added today. The Firebox has a load of
Firewood ready to start up first thing in the Morning and a fan was
put on the Stack to draft the fire until enough steam is built up.
The Locomotive was Completely Serviced and Greased and is ready to
roll tomorrow.. Chama Shop, No Report:
Friday, Dec 3rd
2004 Antonito Shop: At 7:30
this morning a rag on fire was thrown into 484's firebox and she
began to burn once again, by 12:30 she was steaming and her
Injectors pumped the first water from her Tender into the boiler..
About 1:10 this afternoon, I cracked the Throttle and 484 began to
roll out of the shop under her own power once again. We used 484 to
put together the Santa Claus Train and she ran back and forth thru
the Yard effortlessly. We attracted a few Spectators as I took the
liberty to play with the Whistle quite a bit. The Train for
tomorrows Christmas train is assembled and ready to roll and 484 is
steaming quietly in the shop.. Hostler Marvin Valdez and Conductor
Sam Ruybal took the Fire Patrol Motor Car out for a ride all the way
to Milepost 293, just past Lava tank to patrol the Track and clean
the Road Crossings. Chama Shop:
the guys are busy Preparing 487 for tomorrows Christmas Train out of
Chama.. the train is also ready and 487 is steaming in the Chama
Shop.
Saturday, Dec 4th
2004 Antonito Shop: The
crew came in this morning at 7:30 a.m.. 487's fire was cleaned and
the tender was coaled up.. at 8:30 487 pulled up and hooked up to
its Train.. the train departed at 10:15 with 169 passengers
onboard.. The Christmas Train traveled to Lava Tank and picked up
Ole' Santa Claus and Cinder the Bear.. then we proceeded to travel
another mile up the line to Milepost 293. 484 and its Train then
began to back up into town arriving about 12:30 or so.. Locomotive
484 performed Perfectly with no Problems as did the Passenger Cars.
The entire trip came in at about a 26 mile round trip.. After the
Passenger left 484 pulled up to the Tank and we Drained its Tender
of all water, then we backed up to the Ash Pit and dropped the
Fire.. 484 after its brief run is now in the Antonito Shop Cooling
down..
Chama Shop, No Report. |

Car work in the Antonito Shop Continues.. here is
Ronnie Welding on a Car truck.
I hope you enjoy the
Picture's, I broke the Bank and bought a New Camera to run the
Web-site... Yipe's, that put a damper in My Check book... so instead
of presents for everybody this Year, I am just going to keep on
taking picture's. |
|
He is welding on a Strike Plate, it wears down
instead of the actual Truck Casting.. if they are not to bad we just
add a little weld, if they are bad.. we simply put a new one. |
|
Truck work continues.. we are replacing this pair of
Wheels. |
|
This Axle has to be worked on.. the "Green Arrow"
points to White Paint applied to the Journal of the Wheel.. this
prevents rust in transit. |
|
Now look closely.. this is one of the Wheel Sets we
found were out of Gauge.. look at the "Green Arrow", the 2 Flanges
on this side are even, but if you look at the "Blue Arrow" the
Flanges are out of line.. that shows how one wheel is out of Gauge
compared to the others. |
|
Four Axles will soon be on their way to the Shop. |
