RGX 2011 - Trip Report

September 16 - September 26

Day 8 - Friday, September 23

Chama - Cumbres - Durango

The plan for the day called for an early start (no surprise there) and afternoon photo shoot at the Durango Roundhouse. However, the D&S cancelled this event and allowed us to sleep in and even have an unplanned free day. Woo Hoo!

While Michele finished packing, I went downstairs to check out with Barbara. There I ran into Steve and Roger and they informed me that 484 was on her way over from Antonito. Double Woo Hoo!! 484 had been in Antonito for heavy repairs since the winter. She was coming over to Chama for the finishing touches; valve timing, ect. We grabbed some lunch at Trinity (in the back of the Chama Mall) and made our way up the hill.

Special thanks to D&SNGRR Fireman Jon Walden for some of the information on this page.

At the top we caught up with Roger and Steve as well as 484.

I intentionally didn't get any video of 484. The ol' gal really sounded sick;

coughing and wheezing her way down to Chama for some TLC.

The Chama Shops were to finish the job on 484.

A sad farewell to the Trackside Emporium. Owners Bob and Sylvia both passed away in the last year. I only got to visit the store once, but it was amazing and Bob and Sylvia were a kind, gracious couple.

We walked around downtown for a while but couldn't find anything we wanted to eat. So, we found a place called "Serious Texas BBQ." We both rolled our eyes and parked. Surprisingly, the food was darn tasty!!
